Will a GP give results?

Hi all

My dad has had a CT scan of his lungs and chest area. He has had breathing issues for a while now.  A nurse said after a routine appointment a while ago it may be COPD. The CT is Obviously looking for that or signs of cancer.

He has a telephone appointment with his GP on Monday.  This may be because he works and generally likes to be a little difficult (stubborn man lol) and ask for appointments on weekends so he doesn't miss work.

What I'm wondering is do you think they would give bad news over the phone? If they have found lung cancer for example.

I know I'm way ahead of myself but just like to be a little prepared if he might get bad news that's all. Has anyone had results like this over the phone with GP rather than being called back into hospital?

Thanks in advance.

Ps should add his appointment was on the weekend, so it's only taking a week for results which is fairly quick. Probably why I'm a little anxious

  • Hi Peachy123,

I can understand this all causing some concerns. In terms of giving results, I believe it is more common to do this in person, however sometimes it can also be done over the phone, perhaps particularly if they are a little more stretched. However unfortunately it is hard to say for sure what they will say in the appointment.

I know the waiting and uncertainty is difficult - try to take things a day at a time in the meantime.

    Wishing you all the best,
