Angio Sarcoma

Hi

I had breast cancer left breast in 2010. Lumpectomy followed by 8 rounds of chemo and 15 of radium.  Then 5 years of letrazole.

In 2020 had it in my right breast.  No chemo but 15 radium and letrazole.

Now just before Christmas 2022 my left breast became discoloured with tiny red dots and thread veins.  I saw oncologist who thought it was just a bruise and made another appointment for 8 weeks later.

The 'bruising ' spread and on my next appointment another oncologist still considered it bruising and another appointment was made.

I then saw the surgeon who had treated my right breast.  The discolouration had spread but was still not considered important.

I saw her again in February 2023 and had 3 punch biopsies.

They were clear but the bruising continued.

During another appointment the words angiosarcoma were said, not as a diagnosis I must stress but as unlikely to be the cause.

Of course I googled it and the images are identical to mine.

I rang surgeon to share my concerns but after discussions with her colleagues she still does not consider AS a possibility.

Almost 3 months since I first noticed the bruising it has not abated and seems to me to be spreading.

My consultant said the consultant radiologist was on holiday and isnt due back for 2 more weeks.

I am very worried about this but what can I do.

The prognosis for AS, as I have deduced from my searches, is not good.  If it is AS I'd like to be able to prepare my family and get my affairs in order.

I'm 72 years old.

Stay safe everyone.

  • Hello AnneHM

I'm sorry to hear that you've been dealing with an ongoing concern about your breast health over the past few months and that despite multiple appointments and biopsies, you're still no further forward with a diagnosis.

It sounds as if the surgeon and their colleagues feel confident that this isn't angiosarcoma but I can understand your frustration and concerns due to the lack of answers. We know that many people turn to the internet when looking for answers and unfortunately what happens most often is that they're left feeling even more worried.

Hopefully, at your next appointment, the team will have some news to be able to offer you some reassurance about your symptoms. In the meantime, if you'd like to talk through your concerns with one of our team of nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm. I'm sure they will be happy to offer any advice and support they can whilst you are waiting for news.

I do hope that you have a diagnosis soon and that things settle and improve.

    Best wishes,

  • Thank you.

I have great confidence in my consultant and Macmillan nurse.  My only real worry is that this is so rare the Johns Hopkins professor on YouTube education video has only seen 3 cases.  So how many cases are there in Merseyside?

I have to wait 2 weeks until the consultant radiologist returns from leave to review my case.
