Advice following father’s tests

Hello

I feel silly posting when people who have been diagnosed are going through a lot more than me and my family but I'm looking for advice as I am really anxious about my dad...

He's been referred to a ENT consultant following trouble swallowing and enlarged lymph nodes - he's had multiple tests - biopsy, MRI, CT scan and is now waiting for the consultant appointment at the end of March but during the first appointment where the doctor organised the tests my parents were given a Macmillan business card with the contact details of a clinical nurse specialist and cancer care coordinator... why would they be given this if it wasn't confirmed it was throat cancer?

Thank you for anyone that can offer any advice to settle my nerves. It's all consuming already - I just want to know so I can start dealing with it.

Thank you!

  • Hi janelw171,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to hear you're going through a difficult time waiting to get answers regarding your dad.

It does seem a little strange that they have given you a card without you having heard any results, and I can understand this causing some concerns.

It will only be through getting the results and speaking to the specialist that your dad can get the information he needs and you can all find out more about any next steps. The uncertainty and waiting for this information is never easy so I hope you're getting on OK, and in the meantime try to take things a day at a time.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
