Endometrial pipelle biopsy

I am 55yrs old postmenopausal for10 years, been on HRT for 2 years. Recently I have had 2 episodes of PMB. TVUS showed 8.7mm endometrium heterogeneous and irregular margins. Pipelle biopsy is negative. Is it possible to miss the cancer/hyperplasia because pipelle biopsy is a blind biopsy. What if the sample taker has missed the abnormal area. What if the endometrium continues to thicken. If I am discharged by gynaecology (most likely) I will not be checked again. I don't know what I should do.

  • Thank you Steph for your response and information.

  • I do not know anything about pipelle biopsies but I would ask the question of gynaecology if they suggest discharging you. I had a womb biopsy during a hysteroscopy in July due to thickened womb lining, repeated in February. I have already been told it will be repeated again in 6 months and then again 6 months after that before I will be discharged - assuming obviously that all results are normal, only had the results from last July so far. I would be surprised therefore if you were discharged straight away

  • Hi Leni56

Thank you so much for your reply. I will ask the gynecologist. I hope they do check again, a hysteroscopy would be better because it is not going in blind.
