Hi,
I'm writing this on behalf of my wife (51) as she isn't one for googling symptoms in case she reads the worst. Well I have, and am very worried. Don't want to show it in front of her or our children.
On Sunday she had slight discomfort in one breast and developed a tender breast overnight which presented Monday (4 days ago) she made an appointment with the doctors (though its with a clinician not the gp) which is due this coming Monday.
Throughout the week its got worse, the breast has swollen to the extent the nipple has flattened considerably, it feels warm on a large portion of the underside and appears red.
She doesn't have a fever or feel otherwise ill, and there doesn't appear to be any skin dimpling (another telltale ibc symptom I have read)
There are symptoms of inflammatory breast cancer and her breast looks very much like the examples I've seen online of ibc. Though she doesn't have symptoms that are said to be most common like the skin dumpling, but also doesn't have the symptoms most common with mastitis.
Can ibc present as rapidly as this?
I'm just worried if it can and does progress this rapidly then how can I convince the doctors on clinician on Monday to rule out ibc first rather than wait a fortnight to see if antibiotics sort mastitis. If it's this rapid, I'm worried that another fortnight could make all the difference.
In tears writing this, I'm so worried for my wife and kids.
Any advice, experience, pointers on what to ask for greatly appreciated. I'll travel the length of the country and pay private if I have to to get help as fast as possible for her.
Hopefully I'm just overreacting but I'm a worrier.
