Cervical cancer worries. Anyone in the same situation?

Wondering if anyone is in now or has been through the process and can share their experience. So a bit of a backstory 2021 had some bleeding between periods and after sex. Doctor done smear test as it was due also referred to colposcopy as bled quite a bit during and cervix was inflamed and irritated. Sti tests come back clear. Unfortunately, I missed the colposcopy appointment. Test come back positive for high risk hpv no cell changes. Was supposed to go back for another smear beginning of 2022 but with moving house and a lot going on I forgot all about it and eventually had it December 2022. Took over 10 weeks for the results so I assumed all would be okay. Got results. High risk hpv and abnormal cell changes reffered to colposcopy again so now just awaiting that appointment. Have been reading a lot about symptoms and such and probably scaring myself as a lot of things I have put down to other problems looks like they are symptoms of cc. Can't comment on the bleeding after sex as I'm not active and haven't been for 2 years now! Lower back pain, leg pain, a lot of discharge and noticable changes in texture and colour, sometimes blood streaked. I'm constantly fatigued but I do have 3 boys my youngest has autism so not much time for sleep anyway. I guess I'm just wondering if anyone is going through the same thing? Or anyone who has been diagnosed and wouldnt mind sharing there journey and symptoms. I hope this reaches someone as I'm driving myself crazy with overthinking.

  • Hello Lola0301

I'm sorry to hear that your recent cervical screening results came back with HPV and cell changes. It's understandable that you're feeling anxious about your upcoming appointment and what news you may be given.

We have many women who post here on the forum about these kinds of screening results. The vast majority aren't diagnosed with cervical cancer but naturally, it's easy to think that everyday aches, pains, and other health issues may be due to a cancer diagnosis. For now, it would probably be a good idea to avoid trying to read any more information about HPV and cell changes as it will likely leave you feeling even more anxious.

Hopefully, you'll be able to connect with other women who are going through this process but you might also like to have a look at the Jo's Trust website where you can also connect with other women.

If you'd like to chat things through with one of our nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm and I'm sure they will be happy to offer any advice and support they can ahead of your appointment.

Do keep in touch and let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi there. I totally understand how you are feeling. I am also waiting to go to my appointment for a colposcopy, which is next week. I had positive smear tests for HPV back in 1998 and 2002. Both times I had a colonoscopy and both times had the LEEP procedure to remove tissue cells. All my smears after that have come back negative. I went for my smear last week and the nurse could see that my cervix was inflamed, irritated and bumpy? She didn't continue with the smear, just referred me to the hospital as urgent. I too have been reading far too much about symptoms, what it could be etc... and I have also been experiencing lower back ache, which sometimes moves to around to my hips. Not sure if it's all in my head. Happy to chat and keep in touch while we are both going through this.... it may stop us both from reading/searching information and overthinking. Xx

  • Hi did you get the results. I am also having similar symptoms xx
