Lung X ray clear, later diagnosed?

Hello,

I am really worried I might have a ling cancer, I am 28 old year female. Smoked for 6 years, stopped 2 years ago.

I have a cough for 7 weeks now, use to cough up green sputum, that stopped after 3 antibiotics, but I am left with dry tickly cough. Few days ago I developed chest pain on right lower part, which is pretty bad (worst with cough, deep breath, at some positions the pain is better, Also radiates to my upper back), went to a doctor on monday, she thought I might have pulmonary embolism. In the hospital they did X ray which came back clear. But because doctor wasn't sure if it is or isn't a blood clot, he send me for CT scan, which I am going to today. Currently on blood thinners. Don't feel much change so far except I feel the pain is bit worse, but more localised. If that makes sense?

My doctor said it doesn't really fit malignancy, also he didn't see anything on the xray.but I can't shake the cancer fear.

My question is, did anyone here had a clear chest X ray, but CT showed a sign of cancer? Do you think it's possible to cause that much of pain without actually being showed on the xray?

Thank you for reply, I am worrying myself crazy.

  • Hello Jojoj and a big welcome to Cancer Chat,

First of all, well done for managing to stop smoking - not an easy thing to do! Poor you though, it sounds like it has been a difficult few weeks and you did well to go to your doctor's and that they took your symptoms seriously and did all these tests. It's very reassuring that your X-Ray came back clear and they did well to do a CT scan too. By now you will have had the CT scan - how did it go and did you find out anything new?

It's normal to be anxious as you are waiting for the results of all these important tests. I thought I would send you more information on the process of getting diagnosed with lung cancer including tests for lung cancer. But try not to think too much about this or anticipate the worst as there are so many other conditions that could trigger these symptoms. The best thing to do really is to just try and wait for these results while keeping away from the unreliable Dr Google, keeping busy and focused on other things if you can. There are helpful tips on this page to help you cope while waiting for important news.

I hope that you will hear from other forum members who have been through something similar before and experienced the same symptoms and that they will come and share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that it all turns out to be nothing of concern!

    Best wishes,
