Generalized enlarged lymph nodes

Hello. I'm 32, F, and everything began in October of 2022. Upon a self exam I felt a small lump in my right breast. I made an appt and got a mammo and ultrasound done the same month and it came back clear - identified as extremely dense breast tissue. It was only in one spot on one breast. I didn't think anything of it and forgot about it until recently when I began to feel unwell. I had a sore throat and cough and all swabs came back negative, no strep flu Covid or rsv. I was sent home with antibiotics. This was around January possibly February. After finishing the antibiotics I was still not well. I waited two more weeks to see if the cough was just lingering and went back and had more cultures done which came back negative again. They put me on antibiotics again. 10 days later still no change. Then I notice a swollen lymph node under my chin, on my jaw. It's larger than a cheerio, feels hard and fixated. I also noticed my groin on right side was achy, so I was feeling around and felt another node. I brought it up to my GP who saw me again late Feb., and didn't seem at all concerned. He said my sore throat (he knew has been since Oct last year) was due to allergies. He did bloodwork including cbc diff and all was normal. So he put me on a nasal spray and anti-inmflammatory meds. He said if it doesn't get better in a week call me and come back. It did not get any better so I went back. This time I saw someone else (he was not in) and she heard my symptoms and was shocked he didn't do anything more. She did some more labs and another cbc which all came back normal except a bit low on vitamin d.

I have a repeat mammo and ultrasound scheduled for the end of this month. My dr said to get that done and we can go from there. I just don't think my GP is taking this as seriously as I wish she would. She said I have generalized lymphadenopathy, but doesn't seem concerned since my blood work is normal.

I am going crazy with these symptoms and am exhausted constantly. I have very bad fatigue and nap some days when I don't even mean to. I have muscle weakness and soreness. I know those could all be from the low vitamins d, but is there something else I should be doing??

my tonsils are good, only thing dr said about throat is cobblestone. It just won't go away.

  • Hello Mamajun3bug

I'm sorry to hear that you've been dealing with some ongoing health problems over the last few months. it can be really frustrating when you have ongoing symptoms but no one is able to give you clear answers or help to improve the situation.

It is good to know that the blood tests you've had to date haven't driven any immediate cause for concern and that the most recent GP you saw is planning to follow up after your repeat mammogram and ultrasound later this month.

However, in the meantime, I can appreciate that it's difficult for you when your symptoms are impacting your daily quality of life as you've described.

Do talk to your GP about the low vitamin D result and ask what you can do to help improve this and your overall health. Hopefully it will make a difference with some of the symptoms that you're experiencing and if not then they may want to look at any further tests or referrals that may be appropriate.

I know that this is a frustrating time for you and I hope that things improve soon.

    Best wishes,
    Jenn

  • Hi Jenn, thanks so much for your reply. I am taking vitamin d pills now, hoping that helps with the fatigue. I actually noticed another swollen node last night, below my ear on my neck. It's only on the right side. I phoned my GP who wants to follow up. So in the next few days I'll be seeing her again, hopefully she will want to look a little further into the swollen nodes all over my body being I don't have a clear infection.

I appreciate you taking the time to reply. I'll keep you updated!
