Biopsy scare

Hi there. I've had a single lesion since Christmas. I thought was just spot and used various creams which didn't help. I then went doctors who gave me some fucibed which still didn't help and also taken 2 weeks of antibiotics.

as these didn't help I pushed my doctor for a referral which they did on seeing photos. I had them take with dermatology and then a week and half later contacted me to go for biopsy which had yesterday.

I am sooo scared. Although a doctor thought looked like a cyst said could b basal cell; Altho because nothing has helped this spot/lesion I'm thinking the worse. I've had neck ache for a few weeks and it's got itchier each day.  My worst fears are that I've had this since Christmas; and what if it's spread as nothing has helped it worse case scenario; if it is skin cancer is 10 weeks too long without doing anything about it?

  • I am not an expert but I have a friend and my brother who have both had Basal Cell Carcinoma my brother has had surgery on a couple and used Eufidix on the smaller ones. My friend has also had surgery and also used Eufidix both had good results . I know Dr Google is not the place to go but have a look on here under the Cancers lists should put your mind at rest Apparently they are fairly slow growing so 10 weeks doesn't seem to long My Dr told me even Squameous Cell is not done on the fast track cancer path only melonoma is fast tracked. When I say surgery both were done in dermatology out patience and healed quickly

  • Thanks Betty. That's what worries me tho as the fucibed I used didn't help it all all not even oral antibiotics. I'm also annoyed with myself as I'm not sure if they've taken sample or taken the whole thing off. It was only about a centimetre in size. I just don't want to have it done again. I can't tell till I've take. Off the dressing.

it's got bigger since Xmas but seems to have stabilised now? I've looked on google and mine just looks sinister I think 4-6 weeks is a long time to wait for results when it could b getting worse!

  • I have used Eufidix on Actinic Keratosis and it did the trick assuming Fucibed is a similar product .? I am the worst worry wort hence my user name so I do know how you feel I have also used Google Images far more than I should have but I do now try to look at NHS or on here at images as I think they are far more likely to be correct Google always seems to have the most horrendous images I had a biopsy on a growth on my hand back in 2021 I had it done privately and the dermatologist did say he had taken over 90% luckily it turned out to AK again Please let us know how you get on  x

  • Hi Lisa,

If the dermatologist thinks it may be basal cell please don't panic. In almost 100% of cases they are non invasive so don't grow below the skin and spread. The longer they are left they spread on the surface of the skin and look more unsightly. So over 10 weeks they aren't going to spread. Also, antibiotics don't get rid of BCC - they will have been prescribed in case it was a skin infection. Fucibed and Eufidix don't work on all BCCs so have to be surgically removed instead.

My dad and sister-in-law had 3 BCCs removed a few years ago and had no after effects. Sadly, the long waiting time for results (BCC, SCC and Melanoma) is due to a shortage of pathologists. It doesn't help your anxiety but please know that it will have no negative effect on your health.

Good luck and please let us know how you get on,

Angie (Stage 3 melanoma patient since 2009)

  • That's why I'm worried because nothing has improved it. I guess if was sinister nothing would I doubt? I will have a look on that website and let you know results. Thank you for listening x

  • Thanks Angie. It's just so nerve racking. I lost my mom at a very young age to breast cancer so that's always in back of mind; u know just the cancer element. I have been awful looking at google thinking mine looked more like Merkle cell!! Which I know is rare. I don't know, guess everyone thinks the absolute worse don't they. M

thank you for your reassurance. I will let you know once receive results x
