Hard Neck Lump under ear

Hello,

I'd like to think I'm not panicking, but I am so here we are...

About 1-2 years ago I went to the GP after I felt a chickpea sized lump under my left ear. She could barely feel it but sent me for an urgent ultrasound when I said it was painless. They came back and said it was in fact 2 nodes slightly enlarged but nothing to worry about.

I noticed in the past 2 months it's now about 1/2 to 1 inch in size, immovable and pretty hard. The GP did some urgent bloods which came back better than my last ones in July weirdly enough, but contacted an ENT specialist who said I should be referred to haematology.... cue "have you heard of the 2-week wait?" being thrown around.

Understandably I am now pretty worried, the appointment is on the 13th but if it's haematology surely they wouldn't do an ultrasound there and I'll have to wait for it to be booked in??

I only worry as even though it's painless every now and then I feel it almsot catch on a ligament in my neck and there's a general ache when I sit in certain positions.

I don't even know what I want from posting this (think I just needed to type it out) - but it would be good to hear from anyone going through similar/has done in the past with this kind of thing

Thanks!

  • Hello IvyTree,

I understand you are worried but please try not to, you can read about urgent referrals here for more information. When you’re worried that you may have cancer, it can be natural to think the worst, but this can end up increasing anxiety rather than making you feel better. And the only person that can diagnose you is your doctor. I hope your appointment goes ok on the 13th. Feel free to ask questions and bring a notepad if you want to take notes.

    Best wishes,
