CA 125 results 218

Hi all

I just wanted to jump on here and discuss the ca 125. I am 44 and pre menopausal.
I had a bad back and some bloating which took me to my doctors who said I needed full bloods and a ca125 which shocked me as I never thought of ovarian cancer.

I got called back in for my results and was told my ca125 had come back at 218!! I was completely shocked as he then informed me it was suspected ovarian cancer and I would need an emergency referral for scans including a CT scan. I spent the last week googling, looking on tick tock etc and was horrified to find mine was super high and at a high risk of OC.

This forum was the only thing that gave me some hope and reassurance.

I had my appointment today as thankfully I only had to wait 5 days which was so quick but in the meantime have not slept properly or eaten I've lost over half a stone.

At my appointment today I was given a thorough internal scan which was not pleasant to say the least but she was amazing and investigated fully. I then waited to see the consultant for my results (longest wait of my life!) I was a complete mess and ready for the worst news.

He then explained my results, which transpired I have a small cyst, some fibroids and endimitriosois but NOT CANCER!

I can't say how happy and relived I am but I also just wanted to let others know that a high ca 125 done not mean cancer! As I said mine was super high and I was told it was almost a given I would have OC but please understand that this is not always the case as there are so so many other factors that can cause this test to be high (the consultants words)

Anyone going through the same thing please please remember it could be many things not just OC.

Sending love and Prayers to all ️

  • Hello Amos01,

Thanks for posting. When anyone is worried that you may have cancer, it can be tempting to look for answers online or on social media, but there's a lot of inaccurate information this can have a negative impact on your wellbeing. It's great to hear your news and that you found the forum helpful.

    Best wishes to you,

  • I just wanted to say thank for posting this. I'm 45 ,and went to my gp with terrible heavy periods, clots etc.

They took a CA125 which came back at 84.  Get a phone call saying I'm being put on the 2 Week wait pathway. Fast forward and my appointment has been cancelled due to nhs strikes!

I'm gutted, they can't get me in for another 2 weeks!!

I have health anxiety anyway, so this is really taking its toll.

    Xx

  • Hi

I completely understand and it's so justified how you feel, it's the waiting that is pure torture!

please please just try and remember that it's more likely to be many other things before OC. The consultant who saw me afterwards has said to me that he has seen womens ca125 in the 1000's which end up not being OC. Also other  things can contribute to the high protein in the blood on the day of bloods being take such as being on your period or even just having a small infection elsewhere in the body at that time.

obviously this is only my experience but I really want you to keep in mind all the 'other things' that it could be that aren't sinister.

Hang in there and keep me updated.

    good luck xx
