Worried about bruising - daughter

Hi, my daughter who is 4, has been quite unwell since before Christmas. Frequent infections which have needed antibiotics and random fevers. She then randomly a couple of weeks ago broke out in tons of bruises, all over her legs, it really was like nothing I'd seen, and they were completely unaccounted for. GP sent us straight to the children's ward and did bloods. They said her bloods had come back fine and that it was most likely a vasculitis type episode (hooray, nothing more sinister!) They booked us for a review a week later. At the review we discussed how she had another random fever, and that she had more random and unexplained bruises. These are mostly on her legs but some on her arms, thigh, hip. The paed said that this is most likely just vascular, as her bloods were ok and urine fine, however to remain vigilant, esp regarding the bruising. Any new episodes and to come back and they will do more tests. I pressed him about what tests and he said more bloods and maybe a bone marrow biopsy. We're now keeping a close eye, and she quite happy and okay in herself at the moment but wondered, if anyone had been through similar, normal bloods but random bruising which only a bone marrow biopsy confirmed a diagnosis of blood cancer? Many thanks!

  • Hello Riverdale,

You did well to go straight to the GP after you noticed all these bruises and it's great that things moved fast after that and they did all the necessary tests and that her bloods were normal. I think all you can do for now is follow the paediatrician's advice closely and remain vigilant and flag any new episode of bruising.

I am glad she is quite happy in herself at the moment and I hope that you will meet others here who have been through something similar with their little one. I really hope that there will be no new episodes for her as it must have been already frightening to go through this both for you and your little girl.

I hope she recovers fully from this and that you can put all this behind you soon.

    Best wishes,
