Fast track referral

Hi

New to the forum, I have had severe, constant pain in my nipples and armpits and sometimes down my arms.  I went to the doctor who couldn't find anything but she referred me to the breast clinic because of the armpit pain my appointment is 14th March - I'm absolutely terrified and cannot think of anything else.  I'm 46 and have 3 children.  Any advice or reassurance would be very much appreciated. Thanks

  • Hello Kazi1976 and a big welcome to Cancer Chat,

You did well to go to the doctor's after experiencing this severe, contant pain in your nipples and armpits and it's good your doctor is being thorough and has referred you to the breast clinic. Only just over a week to wait now before your appointment and I can imagine these coming days are going to be really hard for you as you are waiting to find out more but it won't be long now until you get some clarity on what has been causing this pain. It's normal to be feeling a bit paralysed and unable to think of anything else and I thought I would share with you these useful tips to help you cope while waiting for important news.

Try not to worry too much about having been referred to the breast clinic and it is important to remember that a majority of people who have been referred to the breast clinic are not diagnosed with cancer. Breast Cancer Now have useful information on what to expect from your breast clinic appointment which I hope will help you prepare for your appointment.

I hope your appointment goes well on the 14th March and that you get to the bottom of what has been causing this armpit pain. Other members of the forum may have experienced this type of pain before and been referred to the breast clinic for similar reasons and I hope that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

    Best wishes,
