Breast results cancer care nurse

Hi, after finding a dent near my nipple and a large hard lump I just had my breast clinic appointment where they did a mammogram, scan and biopsy. I was meant to go and see the consultant after but the breast clinic didn't know and sent me home so then that afternoon I get a call from the cancer care nurse saying the consultant had wanted to see me as my lump is suspicious and wants me to have a MRI. I really wish I had seen him so I could have asked questions but the cancer care nurse said not to worry she's not dealing with me because they know it's cancer they are just gathering as much evidence as they can. I was told the biopsy would be 2-3 weeks but she said the consultants will have thier results meeting next week and then I will know. Seems like they are speeding it through which is great for my waiting worry but also scary.


What I want to know is has anyone else had dealings with a cancer care nurse when in actual fact they didn't have cancer, like why wasn't it just his secretary phoning me to book an MRI, why did he get a cancer nurse to do it? I'm only 36 but have a strong family history of BC.

    Thank you, glad to hear you are doing well. How did you get your diagnosis? When the breast clinic sent me home I burst into tears as I was expecting to be given some sort of clue as to where it was heading, and obv I was meant to be told something but didn't get to see the consultant. In your experience if they find it suspicious are they pretty sure they know? Or is it a case things very often look suspicious but aren't. The cancer care nurse was very much playing it down but i feel like I'd prefer to prepare myself!

    I asked straight out because I felt the atmosphere in the room changed on the ultrasound so the consultant said it looked suspicious it was confirmed a week later I'm not sure if all cases are the same I'm sure they see certain characteristics that show up prior to biopsy results however I see on this forum that some people still got negative results x

    I also asked the lady doing the scan and she said "we don't like to assume anything" which I found frustrating. I know I just have to wait it out, hopefully will only be a week or so until I see the consultant but I feel sick, tired and emotional with it all. My gut is telling me it's bad, it's not your average soft moveable pea size lump and the consultant confirmed that doing his examination (even the doctor who referred me said it's not a cyst just from touch!), but I am also trying to think maybe i'm that one that gets lucky!!

    When it comes to cancer or non cancerous lumps, there are no one size fits all answers across the board for everyone.

    On paper, and according to most things you read, my wife's lump shouldn't have been cancerous. It was on the softish side, movable to an extent, and painful. Everything symptom wise pointed to it being benign. But it wasn't. The pain was from the tumour pressing against a nerve. There's been people on here with solid tumours that are non movable that have come back as benign. But maybe the majority of lumps do fall into their respective categories and is why most information is aimed at the common characteristics of each. Hopefully that makes some sense.

    However, she was told at her initial appointment that it was almost certainly malignant.

    As for the nurses, i have no idea. Our experience was, my wife had a nurse assigned to her from the off before any scans were taken, so I'm not sure if they are classed as "breast nurses" or "BC nurses". The former makes more sense as I'm assuming there's more than just cancers that people require on going treatment for as far as breasts go.

    Hi, thanks for checking in. No news yet, I'm waiting to hear for my MRI appointment which they want done beginning of this week as they are having the MDM on Thursday and want all the results ready for it. My gut feeling says it's not good, and I'm probably the least pessimistic or hypercondriact type of person so I'm struggling with the waitin. I'm not sleeping, feel exhausted, sick with worry and now to top it off hurt my lower back so hobbling around like im 86 not 36!! Apparently the consultatant does his clinics Fridays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays so hoping to see him Friday but will probably end up being next week

    I have the appointment for the MRI tomorrow. I phoned the consultants secretary for an update and she said I am included in the MDM today so the breast nurse may be able to tell me something after that or I might have to wait until the next weeks meeting when they have the mri results too. Surely the biopsy says yes or no to cancer and they can just tell me that, Then I can wait for more info from MRI? The thought of having to wait over another week is sending me over the edge! 
    I also feel like if the biopsy was all clear why would they be sending me for a MRI still?
