Really worried.

Hi there,

I've been really worried the last few weeks. It started when I found a small lump in the back of my neck. My GP said come back in two weeks if he hasn't gone. Monday next will be two weeks time and it hasn't gone yet. It hasn't changed or got bigger either. So i'm worried about this. I've also for the precious for year struggled with eye pain and problems. Been two eye clinics twice and all okay, went to the optician's again this week and again have referred me to eye clinic for something abnormal, but that has been spotted on my scan before but no one mentioned it and though it was completely normal for me?

I've always suffered with health anxiety so as tou can imagine it is at its worse and I've convinced myself something is wrong. I'm trying not to worry about it buts it's so difficult. I have two young daughters and all I can think about is them and just can't be away from them. I'm really freaked out. Just wondering if anything can maybe give me reassure me or just chat... I don't know.

  • Hello Mumof2perfectgirls and welcome to Cancer Chat,

I am sorry to hear you have been so worried in the last few weeks. You did well to go and see your GP after you noticed this small lump in the back of your neck. As the lump hasn't gone yet, I think it would be a good idea to follow your GP's advice and go back and see your doctor. Make sure you mention that it hasn't changed but that it is still there and you are worried about it.

It must be a really stressful time for you as you are also dealing with these eye problems and I hope that you won't have to wait too long to be seen at the eye clinic. If you are prone to health anxiety, I can imagine these issues have made you feel really anxious and the health anxiety is making you anticipate the worst when there are so many things it could be that can be easily treated. Dealing with the uncertainty and the waiting is really hard though. Try if you can to take one day at a time while you are waiting for answers on both these issues. Keeping busy and distracted can help a little and it's best when suffering from health anxiety to avoid looking things up on Google as this will only make you feel more worried. Try and do things you enjoy with your little girls and to put all this at the back of your mind until you get a definite diagnosis. It won't be long now hopefully until you get some clarity and there are helpful tips on this page to help you cope while waiting for important news.

So many other members of the forum will have been through this before and I hope they will be along shortly to share their experience with you.

Everything crossed for you that it all turns out to be nothing concerning and that you find a resolution soon to these eye issues and also find out what this lump at the back of your neck is.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Hun sorry that you have found this lump. If you get nowhere with the gp ask to see a different Doc in the practice or ask for a referral to the hospital. He can't refuse this request, under the patients charter you have a right to a second option. Good luck sending hugs xx
