Thickened Endometrium Biopsy

Had an urgent referral due postmenopausal (2 years no period) bleeding. I have low back pain and leg pain for the last year which has got worse together with a change in bowel movements. Aged 55. Had a TVS and then a doctor saw me with the results of the scan, they agreed so many questions about my medical history, medication I have been on etc, I have many things against me and the thickness is 16mm. They wanted to take a biopsy immediately but after so much pain this wasn't successful so I am sure to return on Friday for a biopsy. I'm dreading the pain and even dreading the results..... Does the doctor assume I have EC from the urgency?

  • I think any case of post menopausal bleeding is investigated as urgent as standard procedure. Although there are other causes for bleeding they will always want to determine if it is cancer or not as soon as possible.  The situation you are in is horrible and I'm sorry you find yourself there. Try and keep yourself busy, you have an anxious few weeks ahead of you with testing and awaiting results.

I was referred on a Friday at the end of June. Two weeks later I had my ultrasounds and hysteroscopy with biopsy (same day) and within the next 8 days I also had blood tests, CT scans and MRI - so all the testing was done urgently but the results came by post and took over 4 weeks. My outcome was a combination of ovarian cysts and fibroids/polyps. I'm currently awaiting results from histology after removal of the fibroids/polyps but expecting to hear no cancer.

I wish you all the best over the next few weeks. Good luck
