Breast clinic appointment

I'd had some mild discomfort in inner arm at breast (thought it was from bra underwire as seems to be more when wearing bra), started paying more attention to breasts. Have always checked them and my last screening mammogram (in 2021) was clear.  I'm 55 and started HRT about 6 months ago.  Anyways, I felt the areola on one side had become more oval than round (can't really say for certain) and also if I flexed there is sometimes a long, vertical 'indent'.

Fast forward to seeing GP, thinking I'd be told (again) that all my aches/pains are anxiety and/or menopause, however I've been sent to breast clinic on 2week path. Appointment is tomorrow and I'm told will last a few hours.  Have been finding many positive stories here, so trying to be rational and see this as standard pracice for anything to do with breast issues, and could all be hormonal in perimenopause,  but getting more anxious and probably causing pain/discomfort with all the prodding and poking I've been doing these last few days!!

Just posting as it helps to take worry out my head and on to paper!  Hopefully tomorrow will bring a good result as unknown is worst bit.

Apologies for long post!

  • Hi I know how worrying it is , I was put on the two week urgent referral but I have bad symptoms worse than what your describing but just to hopefully settle your mind a bit I've seen my doctors referral on My GP app online, the tick boxes, it says anybody under 30 with symptoms just refer as normal and any woman over the age of 50 with some symptoms Di the 2 weeks referral , which is down to age rather than symptoms ,also per menapause or menapause, it's standard practice xx

You're doing the right thing at an earlier stage than me.

  • Had appointment today and they couldn't have been nicer.  Had physical exam and mammograms.  All was fine - the things I'd noticed (discomfort upper inner arm + vertical line/indent when I flexed arm) may well be hormonal/perimenopausal as veins/ligaments etc can change and make boobs appear different.  Some articles have mentioned ultrasounds/biopsies, but I'm guessing the clear mammograms + physical exam meant they weren't necessary.

Still have some discomfort, but extremely relieved to hear that they're happy all is well.
I can only be thankful that the outcome was good for me, and encourage everyone to always see the doctor if you notice something. Regardless of what happens, or how terrified you are, doing nothing is never a good idea.
Sending love, hugs and luck to everyone who finds themselves on this site for whatever reason.  Xx
