Swollen neck nodes, armpit swelling and fullness in ear

I'd really appreciate if anyone could share their experiences with me.

Mid January I noticed a rubbery lump on left side of my neck, just above collarbone. Mentioned it to my chiropractor and she thought it was a knot in a muscle, however GP disagreed when I saw him at end of January. He said it was a lymph node and that I had a few that were up and said he'd refer me to ENT for an ultrasound. He said my full blood count in September was fine and in his experience something sinister would always show in the bloods and advised me not to worry. (I feel September was quite a while ago!)

Since then my armpit aches on and off and although I can't feel any lumps, I think it's slightly swollen. I have now developed a feeling of fullness in my left ear (I'm profoundly deaf in that ear since birth). It doesn't secrete any wax and doesn't "pop". I saw the nurse last week who said there is no wax and the eardrum looks ok. She gave me Ear Calm spray for a week but that hasn't done anything. She phoned me this morning to ask how I am and I've told her how worried I am and that there is no change so she's booked me in to see GP tomorrow evening. She also said I could wait for months for the ultrasound. I feel like the nodes in my neck are bigger now too, they feel more elongated than round and aren't fixed. I also have a neuralgia type pain in my upper back near the armpit.

I've read so many positive stories on here and have tried to keep busy and stay away from Google but I can't help but feel that something untoward is going on. I don't have any other symptoms like night sweats, weight loss, cough etc. I had my 3rd covid booster (Moderna) in my left arm at the end of November.

I know that no one here can diagnose me but I just hoped that there might be someone who has had similar symptoms and can maybe share their experience. As so many others have said, the waiting and wondering is excruciating.

Thanks for reading to the end, if you did.

  • Hello Loobylou65

I noticed that you were due to see your GP again yesterday evening about the symptoms that you've been experiencing recently. How did you get on at the appointment?

I hope that your GP was able to give you some reassurance and support about the best way forward in exploring your symptoms.

Do let us know how you got on if you're able to.

    Best wishes,

  • Hello

I saw a rather marvellous lady locum GP yesterday evening.

My ear drum in my deaf ear is very dull so she is unable to see behind it. She looked up my nose and said "Oh my God"! My turbinates are really enlarged and inflamed and she said I have a deviated septum (I broke my nose 40 years ago which wasn't ever treated). This has caused fluid build up and blockage in eustachian tube which is causing the feeling of fullness in my ear and she reckons this is also why my neck nodes are up. She's adding these details to the ENT referral but there will still be a wait. She's given me a nasal spray to use meantime.

Things just make so much sense now as just after Christmas I had terribly blocked nostrils which then turned scabby too. I've had these symptoms on and off for years. I only wish my own GP had checked my nose weeks ago as it might have saved me all this anxiety.

I just want to say to all those worried sick like I have been, there's very often a "simple" explanation for symptoms and try to stay away from Dr Google if you can.

    Wishing everyone well.

  • Hi again

I was back at my GP tonight as I feel the swelling in my neck has got bigger.  He agrees. Where it was previously described as pea sized, he now says it's the size of 2 peas. No pain but sometimes aches a bit. I still have the fullness in my ear and nasal/sinus issues but I can't shake the feeling something else is going on.

He's going to write to ENT again and is sending me for a chest X-ray because I'm an ex smoker (stopped 20 years ago). I don't have any other symptoms.

Can anyone share any experience they have with this? I asked him if he thinks the nose and ear issues could be connected to the neck swelling and he said quite possibly but ENT are the ones to confirm.

Hope to hear from anyone as all the anxieties have come flooding back.
