Rapidly growing fibroid

Hi,

my daughter (34) has had a fibroid since at least late 2018. Had an ultrasound may 2019 and it was 3.5cms. Fast forward to may 2022 and it was 12cms on transvaginal scan. The November 2022  she had an MRI and it was 13 cms. No distinct suspicious features on the MRI but  concerns it could be a sarcoma because of rapid growth?. I always thought fibroids could grow fast or slow? Anyway she's had a hysteroscopic partial resection of the fibroid two weeks ago. The surgeon said he didn't think he saw anything that  looked suspicious but to wait for biopsy results. It's been two weeks today and still nothing. We are both so scared, can't eat, crying etc. is it normal to take this long? Also has anyone else had a rapidly growing fibroid over 4.5 years?
thank you x

  • I'm sorry to hear about your daughter's fibroid Jujo6464 and for how difficult the wait for her results is proving to be.

How long it takes for results to come through can depend on where you're based in the UK and if that particular department is still being affected by the pandemic.

I hope this article I've found on how to cope with waiting for news will help keep your nerves at bay until you know more but if either of you would like to talk things through with one of our nurses, you're very welcome to do so on 0808 800 4040. Their phone lines are open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and they'll do all they can to help.

Hopefully some of our members will offer their support and advice to you soon as well.

Fingers crossed the wait won't be too much longer and that your daughter receives good news.

    Best wishes to you both,
