10cm Ovarian Cyst & PMB

Hi everyone,

I was diagnosed with a 8cm simple ovarian cyst 14 Months ago and was told that because I am over 50 and post menopause that it would be removed within 3 months. My CA125 were then within normal range. 14 months later I am still waiting for surgery. The cyst is now over 10cm x 10cm x10.5cm, my Ca125 levels have risen and I have had post menopausal bleeding. I have now had my referral expedited and see a consultant tomorrow. I am so frustrated and have had a lot of time off work over the past 12 months for checks and gp appointments. The hospital has not filled me with confidence. Has anyone else experienced such long waiting times?

  • Hello Wendy11

I hope that your appointment went smoothly today and that the Consultant was able to give you some answers and a firm plan for moving forward with the surgery has been put in place.

We know that many people across the UK are experiencing delays with appointments, tests, results, and treatment and this is due to a number of reasons. If you're not happy with what was discussed at the appointment today, or you have any concerns about your treatment going forwards, then do get in touch with the hospital PALS team. It's their role to help resolve concerns or problems when you're using the NHS.

I wish you well for your surgery and hope that the post-operative results bring good news.

    Best wishes,

  • Hi l had complex ovarian cysts 6cm and 5cm that were removed about 8/9 weeks after my appointment with the consultant. This was during Covid about 18 months ago, and they were not doing much surgery. I was relieved to have them removed and pleased when the biopsies were benign. I had extensive adhesions on the left side that they took over 4 1/2 hours to remove.
I hope you have had a better appointment and a plan of care so you know what to expect.

  • I saw a consultant today for the PMB referral. He confirmed my CA125 was 41 and my womb lining was 10mm thick which is 3mm thicker than they would like it to be. With all that said he said that he was not overly concerned as there could be other reasons for this connected to HRT ( which I was instructed to stop taking last week). The consultant took a sample from my womb lining today and has requested a hysteroscopy that will take place in 2-4 weeks.  The consultant is also writing to the surgeon who is removing the ovarian cyst to expedite the surgery. He expects me to have a date soon - fingers crossed!
