Waiting for breast biopsy results- Wait is driving me crazy

Hi everyone,

I found a breast lump 2 weeks ago and have since had my breast clinic appointment 3 days ago in which i had an ultrasound and biopsy. They have said it could be 2-3 weeks for the wait which as the days go by i am finding it harder and harder. Im 27 and honestly thought that they would just say it is a cyst so was a bit thrown when i had to have the biopsy. I will have the results in a letter in which it will either state i have an appointment (which most likely will mean not good news the consultant said) or it will state what the lump is. Im petrified now to receive the letter and would rather just know, whether good or bad, at least then i can just deal with it.

Sorry to ramble it is just hard to speak to family/friends if they havent been through this as i dont want to seem negative all the time

  • Thanks Paige. When I got home and checked the letter again, I can see acronym FNA was written in direct relation to the slides taken for the discharge so still a little bit confused rather than biopsy of the tissue from the lump itself so still a bit confused. But not going to call up again. In hindsight should've waited to fall up until I was back home and had the letter in front of me so I could read what the sentence said and clarify what I was concussed about. But oh well.

That's good news that you've got a date! At least now you now when it's going to be discussed and also know not to expect a letter before then. The trick will be trying to stay distracted until then. Hoping it all goes well for you x

  • Feel ok thank you. Though I've been definitely back and forth in terms of feeling positive/negative about it. I'm only  26 so in a similar situation of generally being considered way to young to be getinf the big C. Though of course in situations like this you then can't help but google and the suddenly come across what seems like all too many women who're only in their 20's with breast cancer! So start to then seriously wonder if you might be one of them. That said, as of now I feeling pretty confident it's benign (has all the characteristics of one, plus my age and everything puts me in the low risk catalogue).

That mindset makes sense. I suppose the one upside of thinking the worst is that anything better than the worse doesn't seem so bad! Better to have a lumpectomy than a mastectomy and full blow cancer! I really hope the survey goes well for you. Do update us on how it goes. ️

If you don't mind me asking, what did your lump feel like to the touch and were their any other symptoms? (E.g. any pain, discharge etc.?) xx

  • Ah I see what you mean! Maybe with all the medical terms it is relating to the biopsy? I feel like a lot of it doesn't make sense to us but hopefully to the medical professionals it does  I was just reading your other reply and I'm also only 27 and being told your too young which is actually frustrating me quite a lot as yes I am young but that does not mean it can't happen!! I do work in a GP practice tho so have been able to chat with the GP's and get there opinion and them to translate the letter for me.

When was it you have your results appointment for?

  • Hello Paige

I wanted to say I actually went to see my GP today and she looked up on the system and the results were on the screen.  Might be worth checking with your GP? I haven't had a letter or call yet so expect that to come Monday or next week now.

I'm thinking anything to try and reduce the anxiety a bit.

    Big Hugs

    Bear x

  • Oh wow that's handy working in a GP's office! Have they been able to give you assurances as well?
Results appointment is on 10th March x

  • Hi Bear,

So does that mean your GP able to read the results for themselves on the screen but they couldn't tell you what they were!? Or could they just tell that the results had now been analysed but what those results were wasn't available for them to see?
    xx

  • Hello my lovely

No she read out my biopsy results to me because I asked if my results have come through.  They were on the system.

Last Tuesday I asked the gp it said biopsy results pending.

I'm just thinking its worth asking Monday if you don't hear anything.  Put your mind at rest.

    Bear

  • Hello my lovely

No I don't work at the GP office but I wrent to see my doctor for my anxiety and asked her if my biopsy rersults were back she said yes and read it out to me.  Yes she read them out to me twice nothing serious so I did get reassurance.

Just thinking to say you worrying but it's good you got an appointment on the 10th March.

    Big Hugs

  • Hello Again

GP said I will still get a letter or phone call too.

    So that's normal pratice

  • Hi Bear,

Right I see so then you did get to hear the results - so what did they say! If you don't mind my asking?

Yes it's Paige who said she works at a GPs office I believe, so that that response was in reply to that message but it may have got confused with the different posts/replies?

    Thanks x
