Waiting for breast biopsy results- Wait is driving me crazy

Hi everyone,

I found a breast lump 2 weeks ago and have since had my breast clinic appointment 3 days ago in which i had an ultrasound and biopsy. They have said it could be 2-3 weeks for the wait which as the days go by i am finding it harder and harder. Im 27 and honestly thought that they would just say it is a cyst so was a bit thrown when i had to have the biopsy. I will have the results in a letter in which it will either state i have an appointment (which most likely will mean not good news the consultant said) or it will state what the lump is. Im petrified now to receive the letter and would rather just know, whether good or bad, at least then i can just deal with it.

Sorry to ramble it is just hard to speak to family/friends if they havent been through this as i dont want to seem negative all the time

  • Hi all, my results have come back all clear so lump is a fibroadenoma which is a huge relief, however I had to chase results myself with the gp as I have been waiting for three weeks and doctor said my second MDT was held last week..so they have k own for while..so ladies who have been waiting a while definitely call you gp it may save any unessesary worry.x

  • That's great news Maria! What a relief for you! Shame they couldn't have thought to let you know as soon as they could so that you didn't have to worry so long though. I suppose because they already knew the results they've not prioritised contacting you, without really considering you're still going to be anxiously waiting.

Still, that's fab news, super pleased for you xx

  • Thankyou very much fingers crossed for all tiu ladies.xxx

  • Maria Jane

j in n so happy you had a good result and posted here for others waiting that not all breast clinic appointments are bad news

I'm over the moon for you

    love Lara ️

  • This is great news glad you got the all clear!

Do they have MDT meetings weekly then?

I've been asking my gp but nothing so far.  Im 10 days in now

    x

  • So it said they had a MDT meeting on the 20th Feb and one on the 23rd..also maybe the later one was held at the gp surgery..so I had my biopsy on the 10th of Feb  so it has taken at least 14 days approx for the whole process so hopefully you should here in a few days if not then keep on at them.xxx

  • Hi all,

Just jumping in as I was in a similar position to you all in January - I had an MRI which picked up a lump, went to the clinic and had a physical exam, ultrasound and then a biopsy. I was told on the day it was a 3/5 likelihood of being malignant, so was super nervous for the wait and had convinced myself it was cancer!

I was told I should get my results in a week, after the first MDT, and that it would be a call or in person appointment but that that wasn't indicative of the results. Ended up having a phone call and it's either a fibroidadenoma or a phyllodes tumour, and that they wanted to take it out either way as they would need to check it as phyllodes are fast growing and need treatment/ can very rarely be malignant.

Likelihood is that it is absolutely fine though! Now have to wait 16 weeks for my surgery (7 weeks down).

Sending  you all lots of love as I know how horrid the waiting can be xx

  • Hi Elrovi,

Thanks so much for sharing your story!! It's so useful to hear other people's experiences regardless of whether good bad or neutral)!

How are you feeling about getting the surgery? 16 weeks must feel like an aaage! Will they reassess the lump once they've got it out and if so will they then be able to determine whether it's a fibroadenoma or phyllodes tumour? (Presumably the biopsy was only able to confirm if malignant or benign rather than the specifics on what type of benign it is!)

    xx

  • Hi SophL,

You're welcome I was on here a lot during the wait reading about everyone else's experiences! I'm only 29 so there weren't many around my age!

I am feeling good about the surgery - I had talked myself up that it would be cancer and had it in my head that I would ask for a double mastectomy straight away to be sure, so having a lumpectomy doesn't seem like a big surgery now!

They think it's benign, but they will only be able to be 100% certain by sending it off to be tested, which will take another 6 weeks apparently. If it is a Phyllodes they can differ on whether they are benign or cancerous in different areas apparently so the only way to tell is by getting it all! It seems that surgery is usually the treatment for them anyway, and they can reoccur so regular check ups. But it could just be a weird looking fibroadenoma so who knows!

    How are you feeling? Xx

  • SophL I'm happy to hear that he hadn't forgotten about the biopsy, it's easy to over think with all this going out.

I rang the secretary today and she said they are having the MDT meeting for my case on the 09th March so I'm quite happy to know that there is some sort of timeframe, she said not to expect the results before then so at least I don't have to keep checking the post box everyday now!

Elvori so glad to hear it came back OK!
