Waiting for breast biopsy results- Wait is driving me crazy

Hi everyone,

I found a breast lump 2 weeks ago and have since had my breast clinic appointment 3 days ago in which i had an ultrasound and biopsy. They have said it could be 2-3 weeks for the wait which as the days go by i am finding it harder and harder. Im 27 and honestly thought that they would just say it is a cyst so was a bit thrown when i had to have the biopsy. I will have the results in a letter in which it will either state i have an appointment (which most likely will mean not good news the consultant said) or it will state what the lump is. Im petrified now to receive the letter and would rather just know, whether good or bad, at least then i can just deal with it.

Sorry to ramble it is just hard to speak to family/friends if they havent been through this as i dont want to seem negative all the time

  • Ah I'm sorry its not what you was hoping! But it's  positive that the samples have came back non malignant, I can understand then wanting to remove the lump as they can fully check all of it then!

I hope all goes well for you x

  • Thanks Lara & Bear,

And you're absolutely right. Always best to look on the bright side. Better to have medical care & attention keeping me safe than none at all! Halfway there as you say and then I'll have the rest of my life afterward to get used to it.

Just yet another experience to add to the "rich tapestry of life" as my dad always says

     X

  • Hi Soph  I hope you don't mind the intrusion, I'm new to the site and just read this thread, wanted to check in and see how your surgery went? Hope you have made a full recovery, sending lots of hugs and well wishes x

  • Hi Meg,

Not intriguing at all. Surgery and recovery all went well. Funnily enough I posted an update just a few days ago but on another thread (i think it was titled 'Biopsy') so have copy and  and paste that below x:

I had surgery on 30th March. It went really well, I was knocked out far longer than the actual surgery itself which  only took 15 minutes! Spent the rest of the day pleasantly high. Recovery has gone really well, from the start, with minimal pain. Incision followed the bottom half of the nipple.

Had a follow up appointment on 14th April where I got the news that further tests following surgery confirmed it was just a papilloma and there was no atypia. So all in all brilliant news! Still likey to have an affect on breastfeeding but will just have to wait to see

Feel very fortunate to have received very my good care unlike some, and feel like my health was put first unlike other young women's experiences Ive read about who are dismissed before even getting an ultrasound let alone a biopsy. Seems to be a bit of a postcode lottery for which NHS trust you have in your local area. All in all it was 2 months from my first GP appointment, to getting the results to 100% confirm everything was non cancerous (with the imaging and needle biopsy at the hospital, follow up appointment to discuss those results, and then surgery to remove the lump all in between).
