Waiting for breast biopsy results- Wait is driving me crazy

Hi everyone,

I found a breast lump 2 weeks ago and have since had my breast clinic appointment 3 days ago in which i had an ultrasound and biopsy. They have said it could be 2-3 weeks for the wait which as the days go by i am finding it harder and harder. Im 27 and honestly thought that they would just say it is a cyst so was a bit thrown when i had to have the biopsy. I will have the results in a letter in which it will either state i have an appointment (which most likely will mean not good news the consultant said) or it will state what the lump is. Im petrified now to receive the letter and would rather just know, whether good or bad, at least then i can just deal with it.

Sorry to ramble it is just hard to speak to family/friends if they havent been through this as i dont want to seem negative all the time

  • Hello

Could you call the breast care nurse maybe or your gp?

    They should have more information.

    Big Hugs

    Bear x

  • What does it say on the letter? do they give you an appointment date? Have you had a mammogram Paige?  When did you have your biopsy?

I say speak to your G.P if you can, they will have more information.

From reading the different posts on here it seems every hospital has a different policy on results and appointments.

Sening you a big bear hug x

  • Hello Lovely

This isen't the biopsy so keep positive, they are talking about the ultrasound.

    Thinking of you

  • Hi hun. No I think it's perfectly normal to be worried. Until anyone gets the all clear you're naturally going to be scared of anything that doesn't appear to definitely assure you that it's nothing.

Its hard to know. It may be perfectly normal for them to say it might not be something even if all the evidence suggests that it is (e.g saying something appears benign but admitting they can't confirm it is until they do a biopsy for example). But of course it might not be.

You must be feeling anxious. Sending hugs and keeping you on my thoughts. When is your appointment due? X

  • Hi Amy,

Thanks so much for sharing! I hope your treatment has gone well? Chemo sounds ever so scary but that's fantastic news about the cancer disappearing on the scans! Clearly the treatment is doing what it's supposed to! Really all goes well with your surgery and RT. When are you likely to be finished with your treatment?

I got a letter through today which was basically a letter from the breast surgeon to my GP explaining what they did at the appointment (that he thinks it's a fibroadenoma or a papilloma, took a slide of the nipple discharge, Ultrasound and biopsy and that they'll discuss my results at the MDT and then will discuss the results with me at my appointment). Feeling pretty positive about it, though I can't tell if he thinks it's either a fibroadenoma/papilla based on his examination (this is what he told me on the day too) or if that's confirmation that the biopsy results have come back confirming that's the case and he's just letting my GP know that before it's discussed at the MDT? Not sure, will have to wait another yet another 10 days to find out!

    xx

  • Hi, it has only been 6 days since biopsy so still waiting for those results. I just feel like with that statement it's like they are trying to prepare me for something!

Sorry I'm stressing out a bit

  • Ah that does sound positive from what the letter says. Is there a date on the letter as to when it was typed? That might help you know if it's just from his examination or if the biopsy results could be back?

I was hoping mine would say similar but it says that it has been agreed that it could not be fibrodemantous changes which has completely confused me now aha

Hopefully it's not long until we get the full biopsy results

  • So my boyfriend read the letter out to me over the phone (I was at work) so when I can back home I checked the date of the letter and it was typed 3 days after my initial appointment. So wouldn't imagine the results would be back from testing by then. It also says how the surgeon examined a 1cm mass but the ultrasound found a 39mm (so 3.9 cm) mass.

But hey ho, will just have to wait til my appointment to know more of the details - 10 whole days away which feels so long!

Hope it's not too long til your results x

  • Ah yeah mine was dated 3 days after the breast clinic appointment so I assume it is just from that appointment! Mine measured 2cm from what I can imagine, not sure if that is small/big I wish I had asked more questions whilst I was there now.

10 days feels like a lifetime I bet! One good thing is you have a date set so you sort of have an end in sight! X

  • Good luck all you girlies here hope you get results soon

    love Lara ️
