MRI booked before biopsy results

Hi so I had my first appointment at the breast clinic they said it's very likely I have cancer I'm awaiting my biopsy results at the moment but have now had a letter through to attend for an MRI before I get my results. I'm absolutely terrified and have no idea what this means.

I really need to start asking more questions at my appointments but think I was in shock

  • Hi please don't panic. MRI are sometime done when the cancer is in the lobular. It doesn't show up very well on mammogram or ultrasound so the MRI gives them a best picture to work from.  Also gives them a better idea of size and how best to proceed.

It doesn't mean the worst, it just them getting right pictures and information. Hope this explanation helps xxxx

  • Thankyou so much for your reply it has helped put my mind at ease a little. They have requested it in both breasts though which I don't understand

  • Hi, so sorry it's likely you have cancer.

I was told after my ultrasound and mammogram, before they even took the biopsies, that it was cancer too.

After I got the results I was booked in for a CT scan and breast MRI. This was standard for people with it in their lymph nodes (mine is) but may be for other types of breast cancer too, don't worry about it. They had to check it wasn't anywhere else in my body and also have a baseline pre treatment etc.

The breast MRI actually showed a tiny tiny tumour in my left breast that I got biopsied at a later stage. I was painfully aware of the 4cm whopper in my right so it was a shock to hear.

Getting all the imaging is good, it means they have a clear picture of what they are dealing with before all your treatment starts. That you are getting the imaging tests does not mean you have the "worst" type of breast cancer, I promise.

I started my chemo on Friday and I still get letters through the post booking me into an appointment at the oncology dept and what not, every time I fear there's more news or things are not working, when it's actually just routine, it's just cos it's all new to me and I don't know how the pattern works!

You can do this, best of luck x

I no the first few weeks are the worst my lovely it do settle down

I was the same at my appointments in early diagnosis people would say take a paper and pen but my hubby was in just the sane state so we couldn't speak never mind take notes I even gave the wrong gp details and DOB that's the state it gets you in

but please be assured this don't go on forever once you get your results you will no exactly what's going on and take baby steps one day at a time lovely

hete to chat if you need me

  • Hi lovely nice to see you again!

Oof it has been rough. After I got my diagnosis I put my big girl pants on preparing for treatment, only to be told I had secondary breast cancer.

Being told you have breast cancer? Bad. Being told you have secondary breast cancer? Very very bad!

To cut a long story short I don't have secondary breast cancer - I do have a tumour on my lung but it is benign and unrelated. Mad, really.

So that was all a horrible time riding it out, and delayed treatment for quite a while. I only started my chemo on Friday.

I'm glad it's all begun but feels like a long slog. Plus found out it's in left breast now too so may have a double mastectomy after chemo. Meh!

Shaved my head last weekend! So at least I feel in control of that. I kind of pull it off! Hahaha!

    all my love x

  • They have probably done it just to be sure. As I said some cancers show better on the MRI. Let me know how you get on. Xx

  • Hi thanx for your reply mine isn't in my lymph nodes though they said they want to check the other breast and surrounding tissue just so worried it has spread elsewhere got a long wait ahead.

  • Amara

trust me they will check everything so your in safe safe hands , my untrasound didn't show any lymph involved but when I had my lunpectomy and slnb biopsie unfortunately one came back showing a teeny trace  this was a massive shock for me as I had been told there was nothing showing in my lymph nodes on previous checks until they biopsy the lymph nodes tgeres no way to be 100 percent sure in my case it was unlucky

but they are doing everything they can for you to check for the us and cross the ts .

    good luck love Lara ️
