Hi Carla , I hope I can reassure you about your forthcoming Haemotologist appointment. My journey started back in a few months ago .
I've met some lovely consultants so don't worry.
Basically they ask your symptoms, examine you for lumps and bumps etc , note full family medical history as well as your own and also have a FBC test .
Ask any questions maybe note some down.
This was my first appointment experience . Since then I've had several other tests including X-ray , CT scan and bone marrow biopsy .
You may not need further investigations.
I have a high red blood platelet count so investigating the cause .
I do hope your visit goes well . Happy to chat if this helps going forward.
best wishes Lou
Thank you Lou, for such a great response, my letters not come through yet and wasn't sure what I needed to take and do.
My blood counts ok, but it's the other symptoms, I suppose they might do another blood test.
Can I ask how long between your first appointment were your other tests?
Thank you,
Carla
Hi Carla , glad I've reassured you in some small way .
I had a blood test at the hospital and many more in between appointments to monitor the platelet count over a few months. These tests take time but I would rather this and get a diagnosis or not and be 100% happy in my own mind .
My bone marrow showed abnormalities so I'm waiting on further testing and a second opinion so hopefully all will be well .
From my first appointment to my X-ray I would say a month or so and my next Haemotologist appointment was another month to gather the results together.
You don't need to take anything, perhaps a family member or friend for support. My partner came into the first consultation ( nerves ) but after that I felt ok to go in by myself, although my partner was always on hand waiting outside if needed .
I should of asked more but perhaps note a few bits down like symptoms etc . My memory is terrible !
I also had unexplained bruising and episodes of dizziness and fatigue.
Take care , best wishes
Lou
Hi Lou,
So glad you are being monitored and hopefully soon you will have some answers.
My symptoms seem tp be increasing weekly so will write them all down ready.
thank you so much,
Carla
