Colposcopy and a colonoscopy

So back in November I had a post menopausal bleed and gp arranged for a hysteroscopy. This was done in the new year and thankfully came back clear .
Whilst having the hysteroscopy they did my smear ( I had missed having one for several years) Now my smear result has come back with high risk but mild changes HPV so I'm waiting for a colposcopy.
As I have turned 55 I was sent a bowel screening test and this has returned with blood in sample to say I'm anxious is an understatement and I've had to take time from work ( also in middle of moving and a mum in law with vascular dementia)

They say don't google but too late and am now worried that the two are linked . I'm trying not to panic and worry but that's easier said than done .
Any experiences of either procedures would be welcome , especially colonoscopy. To sedate or not to sedate ?

  • Hello. I am so sorry, not surprised you are concerned. I spoke to someone at MacMillan who said it's a natural reaction perhaps due to our survival instinct. I cannot comment on anything you have mentioned unfortunately but noticed no one had replied so hence wanting to say something. I have had a colonoscopy in the past and was awake. They gave me a slight sedation though I think. Wishing you the very best and sending hope everything comes back clear xx

  • Firstly I would say yes to sedation I had a colonoscopy a few months ago with sedation and whilst I was wide awake I never felt a thing and it seemed to be over in minutes within half an hour I had left the hospital with my hubby ,secondly I had a positive bowel test and fit test hence the colonoscopy ,they will tell you afterwards what they found that could be causing the blood mine was diverticulitis and a polyp nothing nasty ,its more likely to be something like this than cancer .
