Went worried about one cancer been checked for two!

I posted the following yesterday

" Hi, I'm an almost 50 year old female. For the last few weeks I've been having to go t the toilet far more often than normal.  It always comes with an urgency and haven't had a normal bowel movement in this time, always either just bits or sometimes Diarrhea. I do suffer with Hemorrhoids and have done for about 20 years. I'm also getting a feeling quite often in my rectum that I still need to go even when I know I don't. I have thought for a week or so now that I need to go to GP and then last night I was sitting on the loo and didn't have any sensation of needing to go but suddenly felt something slide out (sorry tmi!) and it was a large lump of pure mucus about 2 inches long. I have had some discomfort on my lower right side for a few months on and off and quite often feel nauseous, especially after having a bowel movement. I have also for the last week been exhausted and falling asleep in the day which I never do. I am going to contact GP tomorrow but am scared about being fobbed off. Am I making this bigger than it is in my head? "

Been to GP this morning and instead of just being told that they were checking for Bowel Cancer with FIT test and see where we go from there, I was also told that it could be Ovarian Cancer so need CA125 and scan. Really hoping my FIT test comes back negative as don't think I have the brain capacity to worry about 2!

  • Hello Caroline

I'm sorry to hear that you've had some ongoing health problems which have worsened recently. You've done exactly the right thing in seeing your GP. I'm glad to hear that they were supportive and have already gotten the ball rolling with investigations.

We know that for many people this period of waiting for tests and information can be really difficult. It's natural to feel anxious and sometimes overwhelmed by the prospect of what may or may not lie ahead. It can help to talk things through with someone and I wonder if you might find it helpful to chat with one of our nurses. I'm sure they'll be happy to offer any advice, information, and support they can. If you'd like to talk with them they're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

Hopefully you'll have some news soon. Do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
