Scared my symptoms could be Bowel Cancer

Hi, I'm an almost 50 year old female. For the last few weeks I've been having to go t the toilet far more often than normal.  It always comes with an urgency and haven't had a normal bowel movement in this time, always either just bits or sometimes Diarrhea. I do suffer with Hemorrhoids and have done for about 20 years. I'm also getting a feeling quite often in my rectum that I still need to go even when I know I don't. I have thought for a week or so now that I need to go to GP and then last night I was sitting on the loo and didn't have any sensation of needing to go but suddenly felt something slide out (sorry tmi!) and it was a large lump of pure mucus about 2 inches long. I have had some discomfort on my lower right side for a few months on and off and quite often feel nauseous, especially after having a bowel movement. I have also for the last week been exhausted and falling asleep in the day which I never do. I am going to contact GP tomorrow but am scared about being fobbed off. Am I making this bigger than it is in my head?

  • Hi Caroline2003,

I'm sorry to hear of the difficulties you're experiencing - I can see from your more recent post that you have now seen your GP, so you've certainly done the right thing in doing that.

It sounds like you are expecting some tests in order to get some answers. I can understand this will be concerning and I know the uncertainty and waiting for information is never easy. I hope it's not too long to wait for your next appointment and any results to follow.

In the meantime try to keep busy and take things a day at a time to help keep your mind off the worries.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
