Biopsy results Breast

Hello Ladies

I recently went to the breast clinic today thinking it just be a cyst.  Saw 2 different gp's 2 weeks ago and both said the same.  Anyway went this morning, the consultant examined me said it was ok and yes not worried felt like a cyst sent me for imaging.  I had a mammogram all clear but ultrasound she said she could see 2 small solid lumps! At this stage I'm freaking out she said she can't say for sure what it is could be benigh tissue but I had to have a biopsy.

I wanted to ask first are all solid breast lumps biopsied? Also what's the normal waiting times? She told me 3 weeks I dont think my anxiety will be able to hand this? I have family history and children so this is really diffcult for me.  Appreciate any advice or just someone to talk too.

  • Hi bear

sorry to find you here a warm welcome

not all lumps are the dreaded lots of ladies hete get good results , I don't think anyone can say 100 percent until it's gone to pathology .

on my first appointment I was told suspicious but I asked for that I straight out asked if they thought it was breast cancer , and they didn't look very pleased I could tell for me it turned out the dreaded on biopsy results 7 days later I sent private I couldn't wait .

    good luck lovely

  • Hello Lara

Thank you so much for replying.  I did actually ask the lady and she couldn't give me a straight answer only that all solid lumps need to have a biopse done.  The weirdess thing is my mammogram was clear so I'm left so confused.  I've thought about going private but I don't think you can once you had the biopse can you? I don't know how I can wait 3 weeks for the results.

I could tell by the faces that I was in trouble

my mammogram wasn't clear I want to reassure you mine didn't look good in the clinic I felt the way it was .

Going private now will delay things

I hope all will be ok for you my lovely

  • My wife's biopsies came back within 7 days, and they told her 3 weeks initially the same as you. However, pathology depends on many things. The two main things being,  testing capacity at any given hospital/lab, and the complexity of the sample they took. Not all biopsies are straight forward. Some can be inconclusive etc. Your results usually get discussed at a MDT, and it depends on when that takes place too.

There really is no magic bullet to get you through this stage, as it's usually one of the most difficult times mentally. The not knowing. I would strongly advise you to stay off google as that will only tell you one thing, and if it happens to tell you positive things, you'll focus on the negative. Googling only make an already stressful time 10x more stressful. Usually needlessly.

  • Thank you for replying to my thread.

Could I ask please were results given face to face or over the phone? When I asked if it could be cancer she said she can't say which threw me and scared me.  Apprently all solid lumps have to have biopsies.

Do you think all results even negative benign ones are discussed at MTD meetings?

Do you think they get in touch with you quicker if something sinister was found?

Again appreciate if you won't have all the answers.

Thanks again talking here is helping a little

bless you I can see you are very distressed lovely

those questions are million dollar questions so many people ask this will they call sooner will it be phone will it be face to face I thibk the answer is every health board and every consultant work's differently some call some Face to face and so on .

it's just the thought of waiting is the worst part the 7 days wait I had was horrendous but everyone on here has been through it and we have all got through it you will too my lovely try and keep as busy as possible and don't let negative thoughts in your mind .

  • Hello Lara

Did the 7 days include the weekend? I wish I took someone with me but I thought it be a simple cyst.

Do gp/s get the results too?

There's family history hence why I have yearly mammograms.  She did say mammogram is the same as last year so normal.  She ultrasounded my armpit too said it was wirhin normal range.

I really appreciate everyone's replies  here thank you.  I have severe anxiety so this is very diffcult for me.

  • I went on a Thursday and had my results following Thursday .

I had a ultrasound that's what picked my lump up she said it was tiny but it was there hope that helps

    love Lara

  • After the ultrasound I could see the nurses faces change like talking to me trying to take my mind off the biopsy they were very nice , they told me it was ok but I then went to see consultant after my biopsy and asked coukd I be in trouble and she said it looks suspicious but can't confirm till following Thursday.

  • Interesting I never got to go back to see the consultant after the imaging was done.

Did the lump show up on your mammogram?

My mind is racing on the what ifs right now.

Can you private message me Lara? would like to know how you are doing now.
