Investigations

Had the weirdest GP appointment with the nurse Practitioner last week, went a bit like this. How long have you had your cough? Since December, when we all had the awful cough and cold that is going around. Nurse checks my throat and says it looks fine, I ask her to check again, so she goes in at a different angle! ( not sure how, and I was there). Oh yes there is something there, may just be the way your are built. So lets send you for a chest x-ray as routine, just because you used to smoke. The wait for ENT is about 28 weeks, so we will put you in via the 2 week rule to see them, and just to make sure you don't have a hiatus hernia, we will refer you there also, I mentioned in passing that I had a bit of heartburn!!, so we are at three referrals/investigations, and I am not sure what to think, but am concerned about my throat, mum passed away from a throat cancer in 2021(we were diagnosed with cancer within a month of each other, mine breast (which is all good now) so all a little fresh, part of me feels that the nurse was being very thorough, however when the conversation switched, without context, to do I need any localised HRT for vaginal dryness.... I kind you not, I was concerned and bemused

  • Oh wow, so sorry you are having such a worrying time. So many things would blow anyone's mind. The nurse seems to be trying to be thorough without realising she is frightening you more. I would book an appointment with GP next time for a detailed discussion.  Make notes now and be sure to ask lots of questions. Best of luck pip

Did you leave with a smile ? Maybe that was her intention.I have had both nurse & Gp laughing together somehow I missed the point & felt I wanted a professional approach.
