Everyone deals with a cancer scare differently. Some only tell their nearest and dearest because they don't want any fuss, making them think more about it. Some tell family, friends and their boss because they don't want to hide what they are going through or pretend everything is fine when they feel anxious. There is no right or wrong way to deal with it. However, it's good to at least tell one person and, if possible, take them to the appointment with you as two sets of ears are better than one! It's easy to forget what was said.

I only told my close family and my boss (due to time off for appointments). Once I was diagnosed I told close friends. If I had to do it again I wouldn't have told my elderly parents until I had the results because I would have preferred to spare them the worry if the results then came back clear.I
