FIT test >400 with reflux and feing bloated. No weight loss

Hi all, TBH I've had blood in my stools etc for a while... for some reason I thought I have piles / hemeroids..

However throughout January I just didn't feel that great/ tied so thought best go to the doctor.

After inspection the doctor confirmed I certainly don't have piles/ hemeroids and gave me a FIT test.

Any how this has come back >400

I have been referred for an urgent colonoscopy ( referral Thursday 16th Feb and appointment date 23rd Feb .40 years old and to be fare feeling anxious and scared about this. Each time I go to the bathroom to check if it's gone away as if it's a bad dream. Family history of Bowel Cancer

  • Hi

Im alsp waiting for appointment for colonoscopy.

Its good you have it so quick. By the time I have my phone appointment that will be 3 and a half weeks since referral, a long time to be waiting.

Any fit test about 10 gets referred on the urgent pathway, its doesnt mean there is or even that doc suspects bowel cancer.

If you have reflux could possibly be bleeding from higher up in your stomach, like an ulcer or something especially is the blood is darker.

Also, you can have internal.piles that are higher up that the doc cannot feel so it still could be that.

There are also conditions like crohns, and collitis, which can inflame the bowel and cause bleeding. Food allergies and intolerance,  diverticulitis.  There are many conditions other than bowel cancer that can cause these symptoms and results

Its such a worrying time and its normal that most of us jump to the worse case scenario.

    Take care

  • Thats a long time to be waiting.

Yes understand there could be many variables here. My wife is a Senior Sister at A & Esi has certainly made me aware of same.

Internal piles could well be an option here or IBD  ( stomach ulcer is riled out) either of the above I'll happily take any day.

Hope you get your appointment soon.

  • Hi

I'm currently having a very similar experience to you. Had blood in stool on and off for a long time. Also thought piles and GP advised this on a couple of occasions but having a worse flare now for a few months so had more tests done. Bloods clear but had FIT test of over 400 and high Calprotectin too. Got a colonoscopy booked for Sunday 30th April which is felling like a long wait.

Do you mind if I ask what your outcome was?
