One week into referral - so worried

Hi,

About 3 years ago I was referred to the breast clinic who drained 3 large cysts, and also said I had lots of calcification especially in my left breast and to be extra vigilant with checking as it could cluster and cause a tumour. I asked if I would have recall to the clinic but was told to only go back if I found anything else.

last weekend I found a large unpainful lump, which doesn't feel the same as the cysts as they were painful and smaller. I also have clear discharge coming from my nipple accompanied by shooting pains and my armpit is swollen, all on the left side.

I am besides myself with worry as I'm on my own with two kids, 17 and 12 ( the eldest knows and has been amazing).

Has anyone else had any experience of anything similar, I think I've talked myself into worse case scenario.

Is it too early to chase my appointment? It's only been 7 days.

Edit... I started HRT 3 months ago due to being 46 and perimenapausal...

thanks

  • Welcome to the forum Cdrlbelle although I'm sorry to hear about the lump you've found recently and the symptoms you've been experiencing.

I know this must be scary but I'm glad you've joined us as many of our members have been in similar positions so they will definitely understand what you're going through at the moment and hopefully some of them will be along soon to share their experiences and advice.

I hope this article I've found on how to cope with waiting will help you during this anxious time but if you haven't heard anything after another week or so, don't be afraid to chase it up then.

We're thinking of you Cdrlbelle and will have our fingers crossed your appointment comes through soon and that the lump is no cause for concern.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi,

thanks so much for your reassurance, my appointment came through today and it's for tomorrow 16th Feb at 3.30pm, fingers crossed for a positive outcome,

    thanks,

  • Oh I'm so pleased to hear that Claire.

Good luck for tomorrow. We'll definitely have everything crossed for a good outcome.

    Kind regards,

  • Hope it goes well tomorrow. I'm sure we all let our imagination take us to a dark place while waiting for this appointment! It's perfectly normal, but only serves to make us more anxious. You'll be well looked after - the staff are amazing. Will someone be coming with you? It's a good idea, just for support and company, and to take notes, as you may not remember everything you're told. Do let us know how you get on, and remember we're all here for you. xx

  • Hi,

Thankyou for your message, I'm feeling anxious but trying to have only positive thoughts until I'm told otherwise.
My lovely mum is coming with me, and I'm going to take her for some lunch beforehand. The kids have plans with their friends tomorrow and are both having sleepovers so I don't need to worry about them, my friends are amazing.
This has truly shown me the support that I have around me and that if it is worse case scenario that we will be ok.

I am so thankful for your kind words and I will definitely let you know how it goes,

  • Hi the breast clinic staff are great and understand our concern about what's happening, do ask them about anything you need to. Make a list before you go, take your mum as a second pair of ears as she will remember things you forget.
Take a book or paper to read as breast clinic appointments can take a while by the time you have been seen and had any scans you need. I like that it's one stop so you don't have to wait for appointments for the scans then mammogram ect, then wait to go back for results taking weeks most patients will get the results on the day,

l hope you have good news take care

  • Hi Susie,

Thankyou, I'm so glad that the day is finally here (I know it hasn't been long but has felt like a lifetime)

My experience when I went to the breast clinic last time was so reassuring, the staff are lovely.

Will pick up some magazines on the way, and yes I agree with it being a diagnostic clinic it's so much better.

    Thanks again,

    Claire xx

  • Cdribelle
