Pelvic mass and raised CA 125

Buckle up... it's a long one! April last year. I went to docs with pelvic pain, dodgy spotting, and general concern that something wasn't right. I'd just turned 50, was on HRT. Doc sent me for a scan which showed 2 small cysts on my left ovary. Ca 125 was 34, and doc dismissed it and said pain was scar tissue from 2 C secs. Fast forward to October 22, I again spoke to doc, again was told it was coil and hrt & age. Beginning of December I got really bad hip pain. Put it down to Meno and running injury. Did a race January 10th, 4 miles in had THE WORST pain shoot through pelvis and hip. A week later I was still getting left sided pain and I felt a mass. Went to doc last week after pain coming and going. She was very dismissive again. Examined me, said she felt a fullness. But said could be my bowel. Did bloods Tuesday. Cue 2 missed calls and voice mails tonight, message on NHS app. Abnormal CA125, 46. Need urgent U/S and 2WW referral. Luckily I have private health care and had already made appointment for Monday at 11am. This brings back memories of 2019, when I spent 11mths saying I was worried about a mole, only for doc to dismiss my worries. Turned out I had melanoma! Not sure what I'm asking for here... Maybe just any words of advice.... Experience etc... Many thanks x

  • I'm really sorry to hear what you've gone through Biddy and for how dismissive your doctor has been.

I can't begin to imagine how frustrating this has been but I'm glad your symptoms are finally being investigated and I really do hope all goes well for you on Monday.

I'm sure some of our members who have been in similar situations will be along soon to share their experiences and advice but we also have a team of cancer nurses available on 0808 800 4040 if you'd like to talk any of this through with them. Their phone lines are open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and they'll do all they can to support you at this time.

We're thinking of you Biddy and will have our fingers crossed everything will be o.k.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator

  • Hey [@Biddy1972]‍  hope everything went well today x

  • Hi [@Twomagpies_]‍

Consultant was brilliant, listened to everything, did full examination, and whilst he wasn't too concerned at the CA125 result, he agreed there was a lot of "lumpiness" in that region. With my history, and current ongoing symptoms he thinks depending on scan results, the likelihood is I'm looking at a hysterectomy. Scan next Thursday, then we go from there. Thanks for asking x

Biddy how AWFUL you clearly know your stuff look after yourself and are deserving of being taken seriously...I am so so sorry you went through that ......finally acknowledgied and the new care sounds like a relief.
Is it possible that they under reacted because it's not sinister? Clutching at straws... Is it too soon to know what exactly you are dealing with?

please keep us posted and I am  sending strength and recovery vibes right now!

have started to wonder myself if 6 years was rather a long gap between smear/pap tests for me...,?

    peace
