Breastfeeding, thickening but clear mammogram?

Hi, just wondering if anyone has any recommendations.  I am feeding my 2 year old once per day now.  I am 42 years old.  I have a mass in my right breast (but no temp etc or symptoms otherwise of mastitis).  Had an appt at the breast clinic this evening, consultant described large area of "dense" tissue, marking clearly the area I could feel. Mammogram and ultrasound were clear but the consultant was encouraging me to stop breastfeeding and repeating tests in 3 months, including a biopsy as otherwise no reason for the thickened tissue.  It will cause my son a huge amount of distress.

I am wondering how reassured we can be about the clear mammogram results , or it is important I stop b/f and push for biopsy now?

thanks

  • Welcome to the forum Laura although I'm sorry for the stress and worry this is causing.

There are quite a few discussions about breast feeding and breast screening tests within the Cancer Chat community already so hopefully some of our members who are involved in those will pick up on your post and share their experiences and advice with you soon but if you'd like to discuss this with one of our cancer nurses, you can give them a call on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They're very insightful and will do all they can to answer your questions and help you come to a decision that's right for you.

We're thinking of you Laura and hope the thickened tissue is no cause for concern.
