Suspected abdominal sarcoma

I have a family member with a painful lump in lower left quadrant of the abdomen. nothing can be seen when lying flat. No other symptoms apart from rare night sweats. CT and MRI scans were hard to read due to prior pelvic surgery (I suspect scar tissue, adhesions blocking the view).

but today I have seen a letter from the hosp mentioning the word "sarcoma" although no formal diagnosis is in place yet.

It's <10cm so thankfully not very large, has anyone had sarcoma of the abdomen ? I'm trying to understand this better but because it's so rare it's difficult to find information. I wish this terrible disease didn't exist

  • Welcome to the forum Carrotcake although I'm sorry to hear about your family member and what you saw on one of their hospital letters.

I know this must be scary but try not to jump to any conclusions or think the worst if you can. Much easier said than done, but I hope it helps to know that many of our members have been in this position before so you are not alone and hopefully some of them will be along soon to share their experiences and advice.

If you'd like to discuss any of this with one of our cancer nurses, they're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They're very helpful and they will do all they can to answer your questions and put your mind at ease.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi l had left sided abdominal pain, scans showed complex ovarian cysts, they had difficulty removing the left one due to extensive adhesions due to previous surgery. It took over 4 1/2 hours. Adhesions do seem to form around surgical sites some causing more problems than others. My biopsies were benign fortunately but the 5 weeks wait for results was worrying.
You didn't say if your relative was male or female as we have our own problems, prostrate/overies but l hope they are soon seen and feel better.

    Take care

  • Hi Alfieisastar, thanks for the reply. My relative is a woman and had a hysterectomy, hence the adhesions.

Happy to hear yours were benign. I think this forum is perhaps inactive as I've seen a lot more replies on the McMillan one. I am also aware this is a rare type of c.
