Vulvar cancer

For 2 years I have bad an itch in my vulva. I went to my gyno and she prescribed a steriod cream. It helped but when i stop using it, it comes back. I went to another gyno and she diagnosed me with lichen sclerosus. Now i have 4 small lumps around my clitoris.  They look like skin tags. They dont bother me but i am terrified. I went back to the gynecologist today and the dr has no idea what they are. I am scheduled to have them removed and biopsy monday. I am terrified. Cried all the way home and all day now because I am so scared that its cancer. I know i shouldnt worry til there is something to worry about, but thats easier said than done. Its all i think about. I have 3 kids. Im only 36. Im terrified im going to die.

  • Hello,

I hope my story helps you. I had vulva itching for years, visited my GP on numerous occasions. I was sent home with steroid cream, used this as prescribed, but the itching continued. I went back to my GP and saw a female GP I had not seen before. She said she believed my problem was lichen sclerosis, but also found a very small white wart type lump on the left side of my vulva.
She referred me to a gynaecologist, my appointment was relatively quick around a 3 week wait.

The gynaecologist said she needed to a wide local excision and biopsy. I went in for the operation two weeks later and the results were diagnosed as VIN3, which is a pre cancerous condition of the vulva.
It's been 6 years since I had the op and I go back to the hospital twice a year for check ups to make sure the VIN has not come back. Vulva cancer is rare and it would take many years to develop if at all. It's also normally found in older women.
I still get the occasional itching and now only use trimovate cream or epaderm occasionally. I don't use the steroid cream anymore. I was the area with a dermal cream and do not use shower gel or soap.

Lichen sclerosis is not curable, but it can be dealt with. Try not to worry too much, I'm sure everything will work out ok for you. Take care x
