Anal Cancer

I had a rectopexy after a bowel prolapse in 2019 and had problems emptying bowels so been irrigating. I noticed a lump on the perineum and put this down to either the op or due to irrigation. Noticed lump got bigger and alot of pain to the point unable to sit with itching.  Biopsy taken and lump removed apart from about 1cm  and told there is cancer cells present still. Got a letter and shows as AIN3. Not sure what to make of it and do not understand it as such.  Any advice would be great Thanks

  • Hello Peaches2015

I'm sorry to hear that you've had some ongoing problems since a prolapse in 2019. It's understandable that now you've been told you have AIN3 that you may be feeling anxious and confused about what this means.

We do have some information on our website about anal cancer as well as specific information about AIN.  Hopefully, these web pages will help you to understand your diagnosis.

We also have a team of nurses here at Cancer Research Uk and I'd encourage you to give them a call to chat things through. I know they will be happy to offer any advice, information, and support they can. They're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

I know we've had a few members post about AIN and anal cancer and I specifically wanted to give you the link to this post by [@MrsCat103]‍ and this post by [@leanneT]‍. Hopefully as I've tagged these members into my reply they may post to say hello but you might want to leave a message on their threads as well and hopefully you'll be able to chat with them.

I hope this helps and wish you well with your treatment.

    Best wishes,
    Jenn
