Thickening of endometrium

Hi all,

I've been suffering from very heavy periods for a while now. I saw my GP who referred me for an ultrasound in September, which I had 2 weeks ago. I've had my follow up with my GP today and she has re-referred me for an urgent ultrasound as my uterus lining was 19mm. She also made me have same day blood tests for CAT markers.

I am obviously worried and waiting for my ultrasound, I was just wondering if anyone had any similar stories to give me an idea of what will happen next? She did mention the likely need for a biopsy as well. I am 41 and pre menopausal.

Thank you all xx

  • Hello SPE

I'm sorry to hear that you've had some ongoing health concerns over the past few months and that your most recent ultrasound has led your GP to request some further investigations. It's understandable that you're feeling worried about this.

I know that we've had ladies post here on the forum previously who have had similar issues and hopefully some of them will reply to share their experiences and outcomes with you.

In the meantime I wonder if you might find it helpful to chat through your concerns with one of our team of nurses. I'm sure they will be happy to offer any advice and information they can ahead of your appointment. If you'd like to speak with them they're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

Keep in touch SPE and let us know how you get on. I hope you have some answers soon.

    Best wishes

  • I am 42 years, very regular cycle but was getting heavier and heavier with huuuge clots. Started getting bleeding everyday and constant discharge. Went for routine smear and nurse couldn't take smear as she found a big polyp. I was referred under 2ww to have ultra and they found lining 19mm abd polyp 3cm. Omg like. Had hysteroscopy next week on painkillers only and it was much better than I expected, they used myosure to take out polyp and had a look around and womb was all good biopsy was all benign, they sent the biopsy result letter within 10 days. So yes the lining might be thick but doesn't necessarily mean anything bad. Since the polyp was taken out my periods are back to normal, no nasty discharge and no spotting. So greatful to NHS. The ultrasound didn't hurt at all and honestly if they use myosure for the hysteroscopy it really wasn't that bad. Hope it goes well for you xx
