Small pink mark on breast.

About two weeks ago, I noticed a small, flat, pink mark on my breast. When looking closely, it looks like a group of pink capillaries. It doesn't hurt or itch and it's grown slightly over the last two weeks. I know it's probably nothing but I am worried about inflammatory breast cancer. Is this something I should get seen? Or has someone experienced the same and it turned out to be nothing to worry about?

    Hi Chappers,

Unfortunately, we are mostly cancer patients and not doctors, so I cannot answer your question. This doesn't sound like anything serious, but by all means have a chat with your GP, as we are always advised to get any changes checked out.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,
    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Chappers,

sorry I cannot offer you any advice but I am currently experiencing a similar thing.

a couple of months ago I noticed a pinkish red patch similar to what your describing on the side of my left boob just to the side of my nipple. It doesn't hurt but as it didn't go I went doctors two days ago to get it checked and I was not even in there for two minute before her saying it was eczema! I have eczema but mines itchy and usually bumpy but this is under my skin like a red blotch/veiny outline, so I'm still panicking as everything on Google points towards IBC!

the only thing I can say it just go and get it checked for piece of mind. I'm using steroid cream for a week and if it doesn't go I am definitely going back. Since I've been it's started to hurt me but I don't know whether that's psychological from me worrying!

get it checked and give us an update on what they say and I will let you know about mine too.

ps, I was reading through some of the posts on her of women with similar issues. Most of them were seen at the breast clinic and given the same advice which was - as long as there is no change in skin like dimpling, nipple discharge, the redness keeps growing or your nipple becomes inverted or changes, you don't usually need to worry.

Hope you manage to get it sorted xx

  • I know this is an old thread but as someone who recently spent a lot of time of these forums because I was worried about a similar symptom, I thought it might be helpful to offer my experience. I noticed an area of lightly reddish/pink skin on my left breast about 7 months ago, about 3 or 4 cm across. It wasn't raised, no scaling or texture changes to the skin. It looked just like as if I'd pressed a hot object against my skin for 30 seconds and it had left a mark. It seemed to have appeared relatively suddenly as I didn't notice it before and one day I looked in the mirror after coming out of the shower and there it was. At first I thought it was probably nothing and would go away, but it stayed for several weeks and even seemed to get a little bigger over time (hard to tell if that was really what was happening because I never measured the blotch/patch but that's what it seemed like to me). My breast also felt a little itchy or irritated in exactly the same area where the reddish patch was. So I started to get worried, started Googling and quickly found all the results on inflammatory breast cancer. That REALLY made me worry so I made an appointment with my GP. Long story short, I was referred to the Breast Clinic where they did an ultrasound and mammogram and didn't find anything suspicious other than some 'thickening of the breast tissue' that they attributed to 'hormonal changes'. So while I would definitely recommend anyone who has any skin discolouration on the breast to see a doctor (because inflammatory breast cancer does exist and is serious so you want to make sure it's not that), I also want to offer this as a bit of a counterweight to the alarming content you tend to find when you look up breast redness, that if you have an unexplained area of skin discolouration it doesn't necessarily mean it is anything suspicious. I still don't have a very satisfactory explanation of what caused my little pink patch, but it did eventually start to fade after about 4 months.
