Thyroidectomy second opinion

Hi :)

I had a left hemi thyroidectomy on the 5th of Dec 2022 due to an obstructive goiter. I only ever had a CT scan then they discovered my trachea was deviated and skipped the biopsy's etc. Ive had this goiter since I was 3 (now 25) but in the last year it's tripled in size. However my surgeon has never once suspected cancer she thinks it's just a large nodule.

I got my results back last week and the letter states "they found no concerning finding" but they're sending it away for a second opinion. Has this happened to anyone else?
I'm confused as to why they're getting a second opinion if there's nothing concerning?

TIA

  • Hi Sophie and welcome to the forum.

It's good to hear nothing of concern was found although I'm sorry for the worry the second opinion is causing.

Hopefully some of our members will offer their thoughts and advice to you soon but if you'd like to discuss this with one of our nurses whilst you wait, you can call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m. They're very well informed and will do all they can to answer your questions and put your mind at ease.

Fingers crossed the second opinion brings good news as well.

    Kind regards,

  • Thanks Steph! I'm hoping to speak to my surgeon next week to go over the result :)
