Getting rather worried now, everything is moving so quickly

Back in November I had some routine bloods done and the result came back as abnormal (High lymphocyte count at 4,300). I was then sent for more bloods in December and things had got slightly worse (High lymphocyte count at 4,500). I then had to go back on the 4th January and things had gotten even worse (High lymphocyte count at 4,885). On the 4th my Dr also sent bloods to HODS (Haemato Oncology Diagnostic Services), and we're waiting on those results. I saw my Dr on the 12th January and on the 16th I received a text saying she had decided to send me for chest x-rays. I received that appointment letter 2 days later, and had the x-rays 6 days after that. This morning I woke up to a letter from local hospital with an appointment for the Haematologist. That appointment is 15th February. Included with that appointment letter are 2 blood forms with "URGENT REFERRAL STAT" plastered all over it. I spoke to my Dr on the phone this evening and she says to me she doesn't believe I have leukaemia. Her saying that really didn't sit right. Does the speed and slowly increasing lymphocytes sound like leukaemia?

Edit: I've seen the Dr today and I got my lymphocyte count wrong. The 3 correct amounts for Nov, Dec and Jan are actually 3770, 4360 and 4850 respectively. That's an increase of 1080 in 2 months. Any lymphocyte count above 3000 is concerning

  • Hi Tat_Man,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I can understand this is concerning and although the speed of it all must be worrying, it is good in terms of reducing waiting times and giving you answers quickly.

It's good to hear that the doctor doesn't seem too concerned although of course it will only be the specialists who can give the information, following the necessary tests. Likewise unfortunately no-one here can advise on the situation.

I hope that the wait doesn't feel too difficult and in the meantime try to keep busy if you can, to help keep your mind off any worries.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
