Lump in groin…

Hello...

I'm sitting here on a Friday night completely anxious, awaiting a doctors appointment on Monday.
I have a family background of non-Hodgson's lymphoma (my mum was diagnosed in the mid-90's).
just over a week ago I found a pea sized hard lump on my groin. I've been hoping it goes away since I found it but sadly, it's still there.
called the docs today (honestly I've been avoiding it although all the websites say you have to see a doctor, because im so scared what will happen) and have an appointment for Monday.
I've not told anyone, even my husband as he's such a worrier, I know he'll panic and make me feel worse so I guess I'm feeling like I need to talk to someone.
Has anyone had similar? Does this sound like it could be lymphoma??

I know I probably sound ridiculous! I know nobody can tell me a diagnosis, but I'm feeling like I might explode with worry.

If lymphoma is suspected, can anyone tell me what tests the doctor is likely to recommend?

any advice or experience appreciated x

  • Hello LaDaDowell81 and a warm welcome to Cancer Chat,

I just wanted to wish you the best of luck for your doctor's appointment on Monday. I hope it all goes well for you. Hopefully your doctor will be able to shed some light on what is going on. I can understand why you are feeling worried given your family history but don't assume though that it means that you also have lymphoma as there could be so many other things that explain this lump on your groin. Well done for calling the doctor even if you were avoiding doing so but calling the doctor will be the first step towards knowing for sure what is going on.

As you said, no one here will be able to give you a diagnosis and talking to the doctor tomorrow will I hope reassure you and give you a little more clarity. To answer your question, you can find out more about lymphoma on our website and about tests doctors usually recommend if lymphoma is suspected. You can read more about the process of getting diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma including tests you might have on this page. Information about Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma can be found here. But try if you can not to dig too deep into all this until you have spoken to your GP tomorrow - hopefully you will get a clearer picture tomorrow and I am keeping everything crossed for you it all turns out to be nothing of concern.

    Best wishes,
