I'm a 26-year-old woman, and in the last month I've been noticing on and off bleeding after sex with my boyfriend. The bleeding is very light, pink discharge that's barely detectible on the condom and doesn't continue afterwards, but it still concerned me enough to go get checked. I haven't had any other noticeable symptoms. During the examination, the doctor said my cervix looks basically normal but there is something she wants a second opinion on. She went to get a more senior doctor who also had a look and said there is an area of my cervix that looks inflamed, bumpy and has a darker pigment. She said it should be examined more thoroughly so I got a referral to colposcopy. I know this doesn't necessarily mean anything serious, but I'm worrying myself sick over the possibility of cervical cancer now :( Has anyone else had a similar evaluation before? What happened?
I'm also currently waiting for my smear test results as I just had one a couple of weeks ago. I had amenorrhea as a teenager so I had my first smear early at age 18, and since then I must have had 4-5 smears. Once at 20 I had some abnormalities, but they were mild and disappeared by the next smear. My most recent smear in 2021 was normal and HPV negative. I also had a thorough gynaecological examination in autumn 2020 due to irregular periods, and nothing abnormal was detected. So at least it is reassuring to know that the changes should be quite recent, but I'm still feeling super anxious, and dreading the possibility of receiving abnormal smear results while waiting for the colposcopy.
