Worried I have lung cancer

Hi everyone. For the last past couple of months I have been having chest pain so I went to the doctor's, he said my chest sounded clear of any chest infection, but prescribed me some antibiotics just incase. The pain continued and has been in the top of my chest and the top of my back and neck. Recently for the last past few weeks I have been coughing up a brownish phlegm which now has quite alot of blood specs in it. I revisited the doctor and he has requested a sputum sample and also wants me to go for an x-ray, in which I'm still waiting for the appointment for. The doctor said he doubts it is anything because I'm 33, but I have smoked for many years only just recently decided to quit after all the complaints I've been having with my chest. Did anyone else experience similar symptoms to this? As I am so worried and don't want to worry my family telling them I'm coughing up blood.

  • Hi, my advice to you don't wait to long for appointments, keep pus yourself to be checked as soon as possible.
I'm also here right now because my husband got advanced lung cancer.
Simptoms are similar yes I agree but by the time they did all checks he came to the point when he can hardly walk.
I hope you will be fine but just want to urge you with time frame as if it was in one lung only than it can be curable but if it spreads to other parts then it's probably not curable especially if metastasis/tumour cancerous. Keep strong and wishing you good luck

  • Hi thank you for the reply, and sorry to hear that you have gone through that, I took myself to a&e today they ran bloods and did an x-ray on my chest everything has come back as normal so a slight relief, but brings up more questions as to why, so GP will be looking further into it. Thank you again for responding.

  • You are very welcome! Well done going to A&E was a great idea. I'm pleased to hear that X -ray was clear, as my husband's X-ray showed large tumour. I hope that it's nothing serious for you and you did so well by chasing it all up. Remember my words and don't start smoking ever again, you won't believe through what we have to go and did, he's pain is non stop tragedy for whole family. Take care
