Lump between armpit and breast so worried

Hello, I wondered if anyone else is going though this as I feel so so alone.

im 28 and have a little girl who is 2. On Friday night I randomly noticed a lump (moveable) at the side of my left breast in between my armpit and breast.

went to the doctor yesterday who have referred me to a 2 week wait for a mammogram and ultrasound as the nurse didn't know what the lump is.

I am currently on anti biotics for an ear infection in both ears.

I've also booked a private GP appointment as my anxiety is crippling me and I just can't wait or stop googling things.

I feel terrible mentally after feeling like I'd come so far in terms of controlling my anxiety around work and life.

    HI Amica,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I am so sorry to hear how stressed you are. Waiting for a diagnosis is always a worrying time. There are a few positives to what you've told us. Firstly, you are young and outwith the considered age for cancer, although I agree that there are no guarantees. The second thing is that you describe your lump as moveable. Most cancerous lumps tend to feel jagged at the edges and are quite fixed.

Whatever you do, please stop consulting "Dr Google". Much of the inforation there is poorly researched, out of date and aimed only at the more spectacular cases. This will only serve to scare you rigid!

The staff at the breast clinics are by far the best people to see about this. If they are at all suspicious, they will run a few simple tests to check. Be prepared that you may not get your results immediately. Sometimes we have to wait another 1-2 weeks, to get a diagnosis. Please let us know when your appointment comes through. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Thank you for your welcome Jolamine. I will be keeping away from google in the meantime as it is just a scare fest. I'll let you know when they call me with my appointment xx

  • It's hard not to google but when I was tempted I came here. I found it a very level, calm place and I felt less isolated on these pages. i was seen last night and got the all clear - lump in arm pit. Do you wax or shave? Mine was caused by an infection that left behind a small cyst.

  • Hello I've logged on to reply to you because I like to try and give people some reassurance after my 2 experiences with this.
So when I first found a lump in my armpit I was sent for an ultrasound and then went to the breast clinic for a follow up scan, this lump turned out to be a lipoma.
This time last year I found a second lump in the breast tissue between my breast and armpit. Quite big and also movement but hard (if that's makes sense!) obviously the anxiety set in, I ended up getting post natal depression so this did not help my cause in terms of fueling the anxiety! This time I was sent via 2WW as now I'm 30 I'm more 'at risk' apparently! Anyway, I had another scan and was reviewed by the consultant. I've got benign changes; fibrocycstic lumps and fat necrosis. They said the fat necrosis is more obvious in the right breast because of constantly picking my daughter up, it's actually damaged to muscle

hope this helps. The breast clinic was great and everyone was so kind and understand what an anxious time it is

  • My appointment came through today. It's next week at 2:30pm so not too long away xx

  • Thank you for your reply. Yes I do shave and also I do Wear quite tight sports bras and I run everyday so not sure if it's been rubbing against my skin or something. I have my appointment through now too next Wednesday at 2:30. This forum is great, really helps just getting things written down and being able to speak to others who have been through similar xx

  • Thank you for sharing your story, I'm so sorry to hear it made your post natal depression worse but so happy it was good news for you. I have my appointment through for next Wednesday at 2:30pm. Trying to keep as busy as possible until then xx

    Hi Amica,

Thank you for the update. I'm delighted to see that you don't have too long to wait for your appointment. You might find it helpful to draw up a list of any questions you have before you attend, as it is all too easy to forget something important during your consultation.

It is a fact that 8 out or 10 people get the all clear from a breast clinic appointment, as not all lumps are cancerous. Many turn out to be benign cysts or fibrous changes.

I shall be keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Please ket us know how you get on and remember that we are always here for you.

    Kind regards,
    jolamine xx

  • Hi Jolamine

    i hope you're well

so today I had the appointment at the breast clinic. Saw the breast surgeon at first who examined me and said he thought it was a lymph node or tissue. Had an ultrasound and that all came back clear. I went back to the surgeon and he said it's just breast tissue and nothing to worry about and that the tissue can change and doesn't always match the opposite breast.

im so relieved it's nothing sinister just wish we didn't have to go through this

    xx
