worried with this dimple i found

Hello! Not sure who to tell about this but I am 15 years old and i found this small dimple on my left breast. I cant tell if im imagining it its like you blink and you miss it, it can be only seen under certain lighting also. Recently ive had pain at the top of my breast and my mum thinks that is is musuclar but then I found this dimple and got worried. As a 15 year old im terrified of going to the doctors and i dont want them to dissmiss me because im so young. Basically my symptoms are pain and one small dimple in my left breast. Im unsure if this is normal for teenagers my age. To add im also on the pill to control my hormones and my migranes but the only symptom of that was breast pain.

Not sure what to do and if its serious!

  • Hi Jazzzhiii,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I am sorry to hear about your symptoms and can understand that you're terrified to go to your GP. There is no way to tell whether or not this is serious, until you see a doctor. It is true that doctors will often dismiss younger people, because they are less likely to develop cancer - unfortunately though, it can still happen.

We are always advised to get ourselves checked out whenever we notice a change of any type in our breasts. It is unusual to have pain associated with breast cancer, so here's hoping that it is nothing serious.

There is absolutely no need at all to feel embarrassed in seeing your GP. They see many females on a day to day basis and won't be at all phased. However, it is worth making an appointment as soon as you can, even if only for your own peace of mind.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi!

Thank you so much for your support.

I have one quick question that you or somebody else may know the answer too. With breast dimpling, does the dimple stay there no matter what position you are in. This is because when I lift my arm up the dimple goes, its only when i am completely relaxed that i see a very faint dimple.

    Hi Jazzzhii,

Unfortunately, I cannot answer your question, as I only had lumps and no dimples. Hopefully, someone else who has had this experience, will come along to answer your question. I would expect a small dimple to disappear, depending upon what position you are in, whereas a larger one might be more obvious.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi there

Told my mum about what i saw and she had a look and we noticed how i have dimples going all along my left side of my body right down to my hip, I only got worried as i thought it was something new but until now id never really examined my breasts so i didnt know what was normal about them. My mum suspects that its nothing to worry about and that its just the way my tissue is. She was very please that I was so open about what I was feeling as one of her closest friends suffers with breast cancer. We found that the pain was because I sleep on my front and I have large breasts which is causing this pain when I touch it. We decided that it was nothing to worry about but if i noticed anymore changes or the dimple getting bigger we would see a doc asap!

Thanks for all your help xx

    Hi Jazzzhiii,

It is worth checking your breasts regularly from now on. Keen an eye on the dimple and please don't hesitate to contact your GP if you notice any further changes. Don't let the fact that you are terrified of doctors put you off. There are some very simple and painless tests that can be done to make sure. As with so many conditions, the sooner it is diagnosed, the better your chances of survival.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
