I was In much the same situation as you a few weeks ago. Found a tube shaped lump to the outer of my right breast sort of goes in towards the nipped and like a sausage shape. Seemed to be getting larger by the day. My skin was so pulled in looked like the lower outer quarter of my breast was missing. Saw consultant on 2ww and he said had all the characteristics of cancer so be prepared. Had mammogram, ultrasound and biopsy on same day and waited 7 days for results. On my return consultant said it was an abcess with a resistant MRSA strain within. He said the lump feeling rubbery and softer rather than a concrete lump is often good news. I'm currently on strong antibiotics to clear the infection however the lump has not budged as yet. 

It's such a hard thing going through all the process and despite trying to distract oneself it's impossible, I know. Please don't Google anything as even now I know what mine is there is still not much information out there about the other causes of breast lumps and everything seems to point to cancer. Thank you for your reply and I'm glad yours was an abscess.  My skin is not pulled no dimpling or anything just this funny little inch sausage shape.  And thank you for telling me what the doctor said about soft and rubbery I read that too I checked and I have another feeling further up on the breast in a different place so I'm hoping it's just breast tissue.  I had the cyst drained and it's in the same place.  I do google everything and im also a nurse so I worry even more but I'll just try to think positive.  My sister keeps me positive she has survived breast cancer.  Wish you well and hope the lump goes away soon.
