Waiting Time for Breast Clinic- Scotland

Hi folks.

I was wondering if anyone had a rough idea of waiting times for urgent and non-urgent referrals to the breast clinic. My doctor didn't give me an idea of how long I might have to wait to hear about an appointment.
I live in North Lanarkshire.

Thanks in advance

    Hi Julz,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I live in South Lanarkshire. Urgent waiting times are still 2 weeks. I'm not sure how long for non-urgent.

I hope that you hear something soon. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi Jolamime

Thanks for the welcome. I was at the GP last Thursday with constant uncomfortable feeling in my underarm- almost throbbing at times. Sometimes this moves into my breast.
I am also extremely itchy over the top half of my body- top of arms, chest, neck and face.
I've had this for about 3 months now and it doesn't happen at any particular time of the month, etc.

The GP checked my armpit and breast and no lumps or anything unusual was found or seen. As a precaution, because the underarm discomfort is persistent, she has referred me to the breast clinic- non urgent.

Would be nice to just have a rough idea of how long I may need to wait. I know I shouldn't worry as I haven't needed an urgent referral but it really does just niggle at you, waiting for an appointment, etc.

  • Hi Julie,

I was also referred for non urgent and was advised by the screening clinic it's 10-12 weeks at the moment for a non urgent. I just called and asked the clinic and the lady was super on the phone - she ended up booking me in for mine as it had been almost 6 weeks since my referral. Appreciate that won't be the case for every area (I'm in Aberdeen) but hope that gives you an idea

    Hi Julie,

It is always a stressful time when you are waiting. Just a tip, for when you do attend. If you have any tests, biopsies, make sure to ask when you can expect the results back, before you leave the clinic. It is so much easier when you have a rough idea of when to expect it, rather than having everything up in the air.

Hope that it all turns out well.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
